Dry firing at the TV

Finally tried this out.

Took the appropriate precautions.... backstop was an external wall... checked to see the gun was empty, made sure all my ammo was put up in another room, racked the slide 3 times to double check the gun was empty. Checked again after every time I put down the gun.

Was looking thru the TV lineup and didn't see any shows I thought were particularly good... so I broke out some DVD's that I thought would work. Dirty Harry/Sudden Impact... The scene where a bunch of thugs were robbing the diner worked pretty well. Had to ID bad guys from good guys... got practice spotting weapons, had to keep from shooting hostages.

Then I tried out Scarface... Wow, plenty of bad guy targets there.

Got some decent practice. Not quite as good as F.A.T.S.(Fire Arms Training System), but dirt cheap and kinda fun.

I want a big screen plasma TV, but since my 36 inch tuber is working just fine the wife is opposed

I have considered doing some dry fire at the TV and having an "oops" moment.

If you are looking into home theater components, including TVs, let me know. This is what my company does that I started this summer!

The oops moment would be funnier if filmed :)

I took a 27" TV out into the woods and shot it to hell with my Mini 30. It was a hoot.

yep, I do too

I always think of a scene from Miami Vice- when Stan shoots the TV at the very end of an episode...then you here his partner "whyda do that, Stan"

I have shot many a bad guy on the television as well!! I have one of those red training model Sigs that feels much like my real one. This is generally the gun I carry concealed and keep near me in my home, so it works out well (Unless I someday grab the fake one) Just joking...they are stored in seperate places.
The training model keeps the peace in my home and still allows me to put all of the desperate housewives in my line of sight! (joking again ladies) Perfectly safe sight and automatic alignment practice in my opinion.

I have a Hitachi 54" HDTV that has really spoiled us over the last 4 years...I can't stand sitting in front of another one if its too small...

Steve's grown very picky in his old age...

If I ever tried to do a dry fire drill on that thing and Wife Unit caught me...

The screams would be incredible...No matter how safe I do it...

I put a $30k theater in my roommate's parents' house.

It has a 95" projector screen so we could all go out there and snap shoot.

The B&W Speakers make it life like as well.

Especially Chapter 29 on The Matrix - the front lobby entrance scene :) Good shooting there.

I have considered this myself, but for some reason can't bring myself to do it.

For several years I've toyed with the idea of getting a projector and building a shooting backstop outside that could be covered with something like butcher paper. Probably any plain white paper would work and using the slide or video projector for this training. The big difference being that you use your real gun and really shoot the target. Has anyone here done anything like that ? It just sounded like a good idea, but maybe because I live out in the country.
