We had a thread about "Whats the most reliable gun?", and it gotme to thinking there are lots of reasons why folks pick out certain guns and why some become our favorites and why we pick a particular one to carry. Reliability is an important one, how it fits and shoots is important. So my question is what is the most important attribute in your next gun purchase. while we all want bargains, is value more important than shootability. Is caliber where we make the first cut in our selections? Or is it about the style "Has to be a 1911!"

I chose one of the listed responses, but the Number One thing I always consider with every single gun acquisition:

It will be MINE!.....MINE, I say....MINE

I voted for "Value". Having owned my share of very expensive weapons, I finally realized that they have just as many problems (albeit different problems) as do their less expensive cousins.

Right now, a "high end" handgun for me is Kahr. The best value for the dollar has to go to Glock.

I voted "The ammo it uses" because when I buy a gun, the first question is always "What am I gonna shoot with it?" which often defines what ammo I want to be able to use.

For me it would be impossible to choose ONE criteria to trump all others.

There are lots of guns that I have seen in magazines or online and thought "wow - I want that", but then seen them in person and something just wasn't right.

Different guns we buy for different reasons. I have had diferent criteria for different guns. When I bought my Beretta the sole reason I bought it was because I wanted a P92 style gun. My next gun is likely to be a more concealable gun than anything that I now carry. I will be intending to carry it and therefore I will have a different set of criteria.

I do understand that my poll is flawed, I assume everyone is shopping for a gun and has something in mind, and some of us will buy a gun just because it needs a home, and we really don't set any criteria for it.

for what it's worth, I did vote "Concealability", but then again there's that sneaky factor popping in of "can I afford it right now", and is it of a caliber that will have ammunition readily available after the potential impending disasterous effects of the '08 elections.... dang, back to "all of the above"

I actually prefer to go with what I know, and can find out about a specific gun I'm interested in...Then go find it, get a feel for it, then find someone who has one and buy a box to put through it...

At any time in that process I can either stop, or continue on with looking for a way to wrap around getting it...I try to keep it simple...

But as things are going, and considering I'm probably the silliest, most paranoid, conspiracy theorist around here...

I go for the type that are considered the most bannable...

My first vote was for value. It wouldn't matter if the gun could aim, shoot to stop, then reholster by itself--if I can't afford it, I'm not buying it.

Value, however, doesn't mean that it needs to be the cheapest gun on the table. Value is having the best features, reliability, and features needed for the price.

I started to vote for "Trigger", then almost for "It's gotta be a...", but settled on "Action".

All three for the same reason: it's gotta be a single action 1911.

"Concealability" counts, too. So I guess it doesn't really have to be a 1911, it's just got to be slim and flat, with a crisp single action trigger.

I've already got a Glock, why would I need more semi-autos?

I voted concealability but my criteria is more "carryability".
I'd rather have a mouse gun on me than an expensive 1911 at home in the safe when I need a weapon!
I find most guns too heavy and bulky to conceal effectively with my day to day dress. That means small guns for me.
Any new purchase meant for carry will have to be very compact and without protuberances.
Of course it must be 100% reliable as well as durable.

It's got to be customizable. If I'm buying a gun to carry and shoot then It's got to be something I can tweak to suit my taste. I am very particular about trigger feel and overall balance.

and she shoots for me just fine
and when she puts those rounds down range
