Mystery Spring - help identify

I was cleaning one of my handguns and pulled several rags out of my cleaning kit when my mystery spring fell out of one of the rags. I've searched the web without success. Dimensions are as follows:

Length, 52mm
Outside diameter, 25.5mm
Inside diameter, 20mm
Spring coil, 2.7mm

There are no flat spots on the ends. I can compress it (not fully) easily between thumb and fingers about 1/4-1/2 inch. It looks just like this, but with the dimensions I've given above.

Does this look or sound familiar to anyone? I have no idea how long it has been in the cleaning kit and don't recall anything not functioning correctly. Everything I've fired in the past two years has worked just fine. I've watched several cleaning/stripping videos and haven't seen one like it.

Did you replace any springs in any of your guns? Maybe the old one?

Nope. I have not replaced any springs in any of them. The only part I have replaced was a lost follower on my Benelli.

I'm hoping it is just a spare for something or something I picked up just because and it doesn't really go with anything I have. I don't know why I would have done that other than to torture myself at some future time like this now. :grumble

Bizarre coincidence. My wife hands me a similar size (about same width but slightly longer) spring she found on the bathroom floor yesterday. I still don't know where it came from. None of my semi autos have a spring that narrow. I don't think it's from a gun.

And now this post...

It’s obvious to me, y’all just a little late for your spring cleaning

Too big for a firing pin spring?

Sounds like you should unload each of your guns and do a function check on all of them. Just to be sure.

Maybe not for a howitzer. ;-)
