The item you requested is either out of stock or it has been discontinued. We appreciate your business." I submitted one last order I'm hoping this goes through.

Did you try brownells? My order monday went right through and has shipped

I tried to call CTD (corporate) to let them know I respectfully decline to buy from them ever again. The lines are already busy :patriot:

The Cheaper than Dirt in Ft. Worth and the one in McKinney must be affliated. I went to the Better Business Bureau to look them up. Ft Worth's website is cheaperthandirt.com and McKinney's is cheaperthandirtguns.com. There are different contacts associated with both but if you go to the websites they both have the same suspension notification. Is there a 3rd Cheaper than Dirt that I don't know about?

IIRC, they reason they use a separate shell company for the retail locations due to tax issues.

In addition to my email yesterday I gathered the CTD catalogs I had, crossed out my address, marked them all "Return to Sender," and wrote in large letters "Please support the 2nd Amendment!"

Dropped them in the mail this morning, hopefully other folks have done the same thing so that they will be getting bombarded from all angles.

I hesitated to post this because its nothing more than something I heard from my friend. This isn't a friend that I haven't spoken to in years. We speak often and I don't know him to be a person that embellishes stories for shock value (we've been friends for over a decade).

I have a friend in Wisconsin who's ordering an AR from Primary Arms. His order was supposed to ship today and hadn't yet so he called them afraid that they'd caved like CTD or Dick's. While on the phone he was told by the rep that they would be shipping his AR and additionally that (ok, prepare yourself for wild rumor here) they had received a formal notice from the government (no agency mentioned) that they should stop all gun sales for 30 days or face possible legal action, but that they were shipping orders regardless. Ok, that sounds absolutely insane to me and like a wild rumor that HAS to be false. Has anyone here that is "in the business" heard of any such communication? Primary Arms is a Texas company, right? Does anyone here have any contacts there?

I was able to get a couple AR mags as a result of DaveT's suggestion. Thanks DaveT! I also found a retailer who still had AK mags so I'm set for now. I'm sure over the next week or two I'll be trying to get a few more.

Another site is down... sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com. Wonder if the rumors of the federal takedown notices are actually true.

At least for me, all firearm vendors chickening out (but come low crawling back when the dark clouds abate) can be expect me to find what I need elsewhere...

I hope the rest here express their dismay - email/phone/oral/ etc. by letting those supplier know when they come from behind the rock they hid beneath, they've no customers left.

Cheaper Than Dirt! will Resume Online Firearm Sales Pending Policy Changes

Cheaper Than Dirt! recently announced that it was temporarily suspending online sales of firearms pending a review of its order processing and procedures. Well-known for its ability to process and ship orders within 24 hours, online sales have skyrocketed to a point where it may take up to 72 hours for firearms and other items to ship.

"In light of recent events, we believe it is prudent to review our policies and procedures to ensure we can continue to provide the products and firearms our customers demand," said Chief Operations Officer Roberta Wilson. "We will resume online sales once we update our process and continue as we have always done by shipping firearms only to FFL dealers."

Ms. Wilson closed with, "As a long-time supporter of the Second Amendment, we will continue to serve the needs of the firearms community while ensuring our unsurpassed level of quality and customer service."

Cheaper Than Dirt! prides itself on being America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter since 1993. This is just going from memory from asking a few years ago...

Apparently CTD was started by a couple brothers, or cousins or something. Things split apart, and one got the Ft. Worth store (CTD Outdoor Adventures), and the other kept the catalog side. The one that owns the online/catalog side opened up the McKinney store (so far away due to a non-compete of 50 miles, per the Ft. Worth guy).

They are not affiliated due to the disagreement with family. The CTD outdoor adventures is not allowed online sales due to the agreement, so it really is just a stand alone shop with a slightly different name.

Again, this is what I recall from talking to one of the guys there (very helpful, actually shot quite a bit, and didnt bull the typical tacticool stuff like "2 in the chest, 1 in the head", or 1/4MOA with irons crap you hear so often from the "type".

I guess now its very unfortunate that he kept any part of the name. I'm sure he's seeing the fall out of the online decision. It didn't take long for that to change as they saw their customer base dropping like flies.

cheaperthandirt.com and cheaperthandirtguns.com are the exact same website. Two different URL's pointing to the same web service. The "retail store" link directs you to the Cheaper than Dirt retail store in McKinney.

The Fort Worth store "Cheaper than Dirt Outdoor Adventures" is a completely different entity, and in no way affiliated with the others. The website for Ft. Worth is ctdoutdooradventures.com

Is it really these websites chick ending out or is it that they got so slammed that they couldn't handle all the orders. I could see how these sites went from 25 sales to processing 100s within it 24 hours.. They could have shipping issues, database issues, ordering issues, etc.. The last thing they want to do is take orders and then not be able to handle them..
