I hate to admit this, and why I know, but in a pinch a good blade can be sharpened by cutting out the top of an aluminum can. If that can became available from the beer that was drank to make it available, proceed with extreme caution, or wait until you are absolutely sober. No one but you accepts any risk for doing this.

Aluminum being softer than steel is mostly the point. I learned this by needing an emergency spittoon, originally.

I love knives as much as I love guns. They are tools which fit a task. I have one for virtually every occasion. There are some great recommendations on this thread. While I have a fairly large blade collection, I generally rotate between a benchmade 940, a spyderco para 3, and a couple of microtechs.

A good knife doesn’t have to be expensive but a good steel with a good grind and heat treatment does command a bit of a premium. I love m390, CTS-xhp/204p, and all the cpm steels. I do find that for ME and the way I use my blades that cpm s30v is the easiest to live with. It is a great all round performer for me and I can get it shaving sharp in a couple of minutes on a sharpmaker.

I like light weight and slim profile for edc. Sometimes I need the utmost concealment and then sometimes a knife needs to be “something else.” Like I said all tools for different purposes.

Lately as I never dreamed I would do I am carrying an OTF 3-3/4" cheapie yet very sharp carbon steel and just works got addicted to it honestly. After I lost my Benchmade all changed as to my carry daily knives, I looked 3 yrs for it. I am very surprised just how nice carrying an automatic and how handy it is to use.

I got a Lightening OTF I know cheap but works great model" no serrated blade, sharp on one side only, no tanto and carbon steel blade they have a ton on the website not running a special at $28 I did get to see one 1st from a friend and was very impressed with the price factored in also, BAD part but got better--------------
Did not answer emails nor phone, slow to ship, BUT did all they said they would do notify when shipped and correct price, new was very sharp, holds edge well as can be expected, sharpens easy, no case just clip, was exactly as I expected and some better.
The Lightening models are so numerous it took time to find what I wanted, when /if you order have several colors you will take to make shipping faster if out of stock on your choice, the choices are so numerous you will get tired looking. Daily carry now maybe 6 months every day and not 1 problem, you need to tighten all screws also at 1st I blue locktite them. Not made in China.

The blade is made of AUS8 steel which takes and holds an edge very well. The scales are made of solid aluminum and all the hardware is stainless. There is no plastic in these knives.

Close call! I almost quoted my post from the first page. The hole in the blade thing has worked very well for me in the past. First with the Spyderco Endura, and then the Benchmade copy of their own knife: the AFCK/Pica.

As someone who spent most of their adult working life as a designer, the design of the blade in the Buck Bantam 286 was what first caught my notice, and I think I covered a scenario I've already experienced with a potential charge by a pitt bulldog. If you know them well enough, when they're really adrenalized, you might agree that your resolve should already be resolute in giving them your weakside forearm. With your strong arm/hand, drive the blade from above the skull into it, or at the back of it, and stop the brain or damage the cerebral-cortex as quickly as possible.

So, coming up on a year with the Buck, I'll say that I've adjusted to the thumbstuds vs an elliptical or round hole in the blade, while the strength of the lock-back is as good as I've experienced. The price is ridiculous!

Hope I never have to use it for that purpose, or Tactically, period. Don't have much concern in the event that I have to. And, the Buck family is a good story of a man, Chuck Buck, who always had it right!

I still love my Spyderco Tenacious but I decided to go ahead and purchase a Spyderco Para Military 2 and I cant say enough good things about it. The quality and ergonomics are amazing

Several have asked for my OTF brand it is called Lightning OTF running an email coupon now for $26 I have a single edge black blade carbon steel, I was and am very pleased with it, WARNING looking at all they have will take awhile I promise you. I have seen 4 of them and all that have them really like them. I would replace it if I had to again. If you get one blue locktite all screws 1st

Looks to be a good quality knife for the price. It will replace my old EDC knife Kershaw Thistle i bought at a walmart some 5 years ago. This Kershaw knife is for sale on this web site for only $12.99.

I also orderef my Para Mililitary 2 from Blade HQ and got it in 5 days. I ordered my Tenacious from Walmart online and it was shipped by a secondary supplier and with the fakes out their I decided to order the Para Military 2 from Blade HQ and it was the same price as Walmart

Patterson, those look like great knives you have. I'm too rough on knives with the kind of work i do. Strip wire, cut insulation, a lot of other stuff. Maybe one day I'll spring for one of the upper priced Spyderco.
