Academy and Buying Ammo and carded?

I hope my .308 ammo isn't considered evil gun fodder, and considered more harmless than the ammo of mass destruction .223 stuff. I guess it doesn't matter I can't afford to buy .308 in bulks anyways, Everyone knows that it's the 7.62×51mm stuff that feeds assault rifles don't they?

Ladies and Gentlemen, there are a number of comments about large purchases of ammo & carding. How much ammo is a large purchase ? I am recently on the downhill side of sixty and have always been considered something of a conspiracy theorerist. I am verrrry slooow when asked to present ID, or any personal info when I don't believe it's needed, I usually will not comply w/those requests and instead ask to speak to a manager. When asked for ID to purchase ammo (if it ever happens) I will not show it. Store policy. Ok, I will shop elsewhere. That store, and/or most like it, can not be trusted to safeguard my personal info. This has been proven repeatedly by data breaches around the world. I do not shoot my 30-30 very often (I take it out of the safe, inspect & clean it 2x/yr, needed or not) so buying 100 rds would be alot, however, that same amount in a different caliber would not last 10min on our next range visit. My wife likes pulling the trigger more than I do. I recently purchased 1000 rds of 40 and didn't think twice about paying for it and yes, I pd cash.
I can't find anything official on Academys website. Their press releases don't address it either. Where did any of you find this information ? Please share if possible.

with Jusme agreeing with pushpullpete. Personal info regarding just ammo sales is not needed. There is too much personal info out there anyway. And I certainly don't trust a retailer to keep that kind of info in any type of database secure. Under ANY circumstances. Plenty of other retailers who do NOT require it, and they have MY business.

Well I guess they are more concerned with PC than sales,
which they have the right to do, but, and while my decisions probably won't affect their bottom line, I am not purchasing anything from Academy until this policy is recinded JMHO

I just left Academy, was going there to get dad a gift card for father's day and yup, all the ARs have been removed but are in cages behind the counter. Not sure if it was Pollo Loco for dinner or just the fact that Academy is giving in to "political pressure" that made me sick. As a long time customer of Academy (back to the days of army surplus gear being sold and limited gear)....I will shop else where. Guess I'll be getting dad a Bass Pro Shops gift card now.

Today in Killeen Texas I purchased 400 Rds .45, 100 Rds .380, 300 rds .22...... Im pretty sure they looked up at my face when asking me to punch in my zip code for some advertisement media junk mail reason.. but that was the extent of my ID request. Yawn.......

The information states they ask for ID if you purchase a large quantity of ammo for what they think is an "assault weapon" style gun. Go back and purchase 10 boxes of .223 and then let us know what happens.

OK, well I dont own a .223... but I can try with 5.56.. Can always use another 200~500 rds of that in the gun room.

Just buy it on line. usually cheaper, more available. don't have to stand in line or get to the store stupid early in hopes of getting a box. Plenty of online sources, here's one that searches the web for deals.

Buying online is far more intrusive in terms of tracking purchases. Kind of defeats the purpose of boycotting Academy.
