Older thread, but will add my .02

For comfort and protection, as well as CCW, a pocket pistol is the way to go. Why carry a big heavy pistol that shoots a brick everyday, when you probably aren't going to use it anyway. I, too began the CCW world with a 1911 Commander. Love the 1911's and the 45 ACP. After a while of carrying, summer months, tshirts, cargo shorts, etc., I pulled the ole PPK/S outta the safe. Been carrying it ever since. Many have trusted their lives to a PPK/S and 380 since the 30's. Critical Defense ammo has really brought some of these smaller calibers into their own. Now, that being said, on occasion on a trip into known goblin land, the GLOCK 19 may go along.

Should open carry pass and folks decide to partake of this option, size may not matter as much. My big Glock 20 is very comfortable on my waist rig when hunting.
