That was almost exactly what happened to me, except my explanation was that there was an awesome sale with a large % off. Thankfully, it was our 15th anniversary yesterday, and I happened to do some things she really liked, so she was hard to convince (even though all of that happened before I seriously thought of buying it, so I didn't plan on being really romantic just to buy the gun, as some of you probably thought).

I already love this thing! The best anniversary present!

So I started saving my pennies (and quarters and dollars  ) so that I could pay cash for one (we try to limit purchases to whatever we have cash for - almost never use credit cards).
WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT... just about the time that I had enough saved up I saw a used fishing kayak for just about the same price as the XDS. It was worth twice what the guy was asking for it, so to make a long story short, I have to start saving (again) for that XDS-9.
(And yes - I've taken the kayak out fishing and it WAS worth it! :anamatedbanana )
I guess, I would understand you choice, if I were into kayaking. :confused5

But, as long as you enjoy your choice, that's great! Hope you will save it up soon. We never ever use credit cards, but I did dip into our emergency fund. I had to give up e-cigarettes for this (not a big loss, the XDS is well worth it).

I agree, I told her the truth about the sale, but I made it sound a bigger deal than it actually was. Basically, I used a sales tactics... Took the gun out for a prolonged shooting today - it handles excellently and smoothly; it is accurate at a longer than expected range; it's the kind of a gun you'd want for life. Between the XDs and my XDm I am done looking for handguns. If I need more guns, I will just get these. I am holding my breath for their next generation of of handguns. Until then I may get an XDm 3.8"

I love mine. In fact, my brother and a friend bought the .45 as well. It was a bit rude at first, but becomes a great shooter. I was even running some tactical drills with it and can say it's very accurate. I got a few of the extended mags and that gives it a whole new feel which is great for larger hands. For EDC, I just use the 5+1 as it's still a comfortable shooter.

Agreed. I am in the process of ordering the 9+1 mag for my 9 mm. I have tried it out today at the store, but I wanted to order it directly from Springfield. It is a bit rough at first. I cleaned it thoroughly, lubricated it well. When I was being too gently with the slide the first round from the mag wouldn't feed fully into the chamber. I panicked and ran back to the store, thinking it was defective. However, the gunsmith there explained to me that in the beginning I need to let it snap without being gentle and it will work itself out. And he was right. I tried other XDS guns they had and they did exactly the same thing. Relieved I brought it back and am going to shoot a couple of hundred rounds every few days.

One thing's for sure - it is SO easy to carry, compared to my XDm. Although I love my XDm, it was a pain to carry. I am going to carry it only during the cooler months, but in the summer - the XDs is my gun. It can easily fit in my pocket, although I carry it in the IWB holster. It feels very natural. I can't get enough of that thing!

My wife's EDC is a Kahr CW9. When she saw my XDS45, she asked if it was available in 9mm. When I said yes, her eyes started sparkling. I already know what's going to be under the tree for her for Christmas.

Just throwing this out there... For shorts and baggier pants I got the DeSantis Super Fly for in the pocket carry. IWB I absolutely love and recommend the MTAC Minotaur.

And another note, if you are going to switch out the fiber optic, sand it down just a bit so it doesn't fray. I used nail clippers to cut and a candle to bulb the ends.

Enjoy your XDs!!!

I like my .45 XDs a lot, but it seems like unless I meticulously clean it after each time at the range, I experience misfires and FTF. Also, you need to be ver forceful racking the first round or else it seems you risk the same. My XD 9 sc seems a lot less picky on all counts.

Yes. I have already consulted my gunsmith on that. I thought the gun was defective. He said that after a while this problem should dissipate (the first round problem). I clean my guns after each range shooting, so I have not experienced any misfires, but I will keep that in mind. Thanks. I do not anticipate any major issues. I have spoken to some professionals and read some reviews from recognized authorities, and ALL OF THEM WITH NO EXCEPTIONS praised the gun in all aspects. It is really tight. I thought my XDm was tight when I got it new, but with the XDs I'm gonna need finger transplants. But I have shot a few hundred rounds with it, cleaned it and oiled it thoroughly, and no problems at the range (other than the first round issue before I learned how to do it correctly). It is such a pleasure to shoot that thing! I wish the magazine could hold more than 7 though. That's why I'm getting the extended one. 9 rounds should work nicely.

I just love that gun - almost as much as my XDm.

I haven't hear of the .40 XDs either, but I just thought it was something new they mentioned in this thread. I got the XDs 9 mm today - Brand new in the case with all the bells and whistles. People love the new car smell, but I LOVE THE NEW GUN smell with its new factory case smell. I even take time to read the manuals. When I wear the XDs I can't even tell I have a gun. It's so easy to conceal and to draw. I still think my XDm is the best gun, but during the summer months here in Texas I have to choose my XDs...
...look at the calibers listed on the back of the nifty little paddle holster you got in the case with your XDS...
JUST LOOKED IT IT. Very interesting. It says: .45 Acp .40 9mm

I guess they are making the .40 (or planning on it very soon).

That's great. But still — I am happy with the 9 mm. I am going to get the XDm compact 3.8" though next year...

Thanks for pointing that out.

I went to the store recently & was looking at the comparing the M&P 9c & Shield (both 9mm) & independently 3 different salesman at 2 different stores wanted me to look at the XDS9.

Bottom line, I wanted "Made in the USA" stamped on it, not "Made in Croatia".

I wonder if a gunsmith could handle that for you?
