Ok so heres an update. I decided to go with the Springfield Champion after going down to my local gun store and doing some price checks.
They said they could get it to me for $509.33 (plus tax etc which would make it $551something) BUT its out of stock right now and they dont know when it'll be in stock again.I asked if they were willing to take a used gun as a trde in and after seeing that it was a Springfield XD .45GAP they said no.
So then I went to another gun store a few miles away and did the same thing. The said they would take my GAP as a trade BUT they'd only give me $350 including the extra magazines I had going with it (5 total).Ok, I checked out the GunValues book before hand and it said for this weapon in 100% condition its worth $460 and for 98% $400 and that doesnt even include the extra mags I bought to go with it.
Also, this gun store had the Springfield in stock and said with the $350 trade in of my GAP the remaining balance on the Springfield would be $204.60 (tax and everyhing included)So I'd be losing $100 on the sale of the GAP and my total price would be $554.60.
Ultimately, I'd rather sell my GAP to a private person or at a gun show so that I could get what its worth but no one I know wants a GAP and I dont have the $ or time right now to be able to go to a gun show.So I dont know what to do right now.Either sell the GAP to the store for less and still be able to afford the difference on the Springfiled.Or Save my $ and buy the Springfield from the first store if and when they can get it in stock, which could be a long wait.Or I can keep looking for someone to buy the GAP and then buy the Springfield for either store.
Also, while in gun store #2 I checked out a Kimber Tac. Pro and it was a very sweet little gun.I wish I had the $ for it but I dont and probably wont be able to afford it for a long time seeing as how I'm a broke college student.
So now I need some advice.Do I sell the GAP to store #2 for under its value and get the Springfield,or do I try to save up enough to buy it from store#1 w/o a trade in if they can get it back in stock (again remember I'm a college student on a budget so saving the $ would be hard and long).Or do I sit on the GAP until I find a private buyer and then go to either store and get the Springfield (if its in stock).Or I could play the lotto and wish I could afford the Kimber.
ugh! I'm so confused. What would you do in this situation?

Boy, only you can decide what it's worth to you to get your SA.
Carter Country in Houston recently sold the XD .45 GAP's for $359.
Since they aren't as popular as the ACP version, it may be hard for you to recover your investment.
But you are learning a hard and fast rule of trading. Expect any dealer to allow you 60-70% of what you could sell for.
If you want my advice, put your plans on hold until you sell the GAP.

Also, check this out.
http://www.impactguns.com/store/706397866679.html
It's not in stock right now, but you can put it on lay-a-way. It is 20% down ($102), then you have 90 days to pay it off interest free.
Total with shipping is $507.99 plus FFL which shouldn't exceed $25. You can save you a few bucks.

Agree w/ Mike1951, (& if that is the yr of your birth I have you by one.)
You have a perfectly good quality & reliable carry gun. You may not like it as the one you want for daily carry but it does the job. My 1st was not what I wanted either but what I could afford at the time.
I will encourage you to wait & save until you can do what you want. This will be a point of discipline. Doing it though will carry over into other areas of your life. 10 yrs from now you will be glad you did.

I dont carry the GAP.With my personal body shape/size I cant conceal it comfortable with the clothes I wear daily b/c the frame is too chunky. Its strictly a range gun right now and a backup to my CCW,which is a Norinco 1911A1 .45ACP.I can conceal a full size 1911 easier b/c its slimmer in frame and the holster I have for it makes it very comfortable.longtooth wrote:Agree w/ Mike1951, (& if that is the yr of your birth I have you by one.)

I completely understand why the stores behave as they do.Everyone wants to make a little profit, thats understandable. And the guy actually told me I'd be better off selling privately.

CCW 1911 UPDATE
Ok so I was able to sell my GAP for $400 privately after a whole lot of haggling with prospective buyers.I got offers of $200 something,$350,$320 etc etc,but I finally found a guy who loved it and could hand me $400 cash the same day.Soooo, I guess that was better than trading it in at the gun store.
BUT, my "dear" hubby mismanaged the budget and so he took all $400 to pay bills etc.
There could be a silver lining soon as my hubby might be comming into some $$ soon and if so the first thing I want to do is get my 1911.He knows I'm very adamate and has agreed.
So as soon as (possibly) tomorrow I might have my 1911.*happy dance*

This one is probably not in your budget either but just a suggestion.
STI Escort

I think it runs about the same as the Kimber, but is made right here in Texas.
Another thing to consider about the GI model is that it is about as basic as they come in a 1911. I believe you will have to have considerable work done to it to make you happy.

Yes it will need some work, but not much b/c I shoot a Norinco 1911 right now thats just as basic and its fine by me.I'm not much for frills and such on my guns.I just wanna shoot 'em and they perform accurately.

Re: 1911 CCW help
Someone told me that the Rock Island 1911, which is basically a pre-70, mil-spec 1911 made in the Philippines, has a better fit and finish than the Springfield GI.

Its the same with the Norinco I currently have. Its Chinese made and sold out of Canada, but, due to the embargo on Chinese made weapons its real hard to get one here. The cost in Canada is about $3-400 but to actually get one over here into the US makes them more expensive than a Kimber.

If I had my choice I'd get another Norinco. The one I shoot now is very basic with the exception of whomever had it before me put in a comp. hammer and trigger package,so theyre kinda skeletonized now.But I love it just the same.I just wish it was smaller and easier to conceal for carrying.Hence the reason I'm wanting a new gun.
I've had 3 springfield weapons in the past and they were nice little firearms. So for now I'm sticking with them.
