So far, the most votes seem to be for Lone Star in Lockhart. I know that may be a little far to drive for some in west San Antonio or North Austin though.

Does anyone really prefer someplace else or should we assume Lone Star and start picking a date?
I have shot at both and both are good. Not sure on logistics of either for a large crowd. The shooting "bays" at Bracken (used for IDPA etc) are a bit narrow compared to the slightly wider bays at Austin Rifle Club (where I usually shoot IDPA) and the ridiculously large bays at Best of the West in Liberty Hill. Haven't been to Lone Star in more than a year, but seem to remember its pistol bay - while being the standard "stand here behind this bench and don't move forward" set up - is wide enough for 10-plus shooters at one time (assuming we could somehow get all the shooting positions at once).

Either one I think will work and I'd attend at either if I"m available on the chosen day.

Lockhart DOES have the better barbecue, however. And I still have not been to the new Kreuz's BBQ (keep going back to the old one, now called "Smitty's"

How about we meet for BBQ brunch/lunch first and get to know the folks before heading out to shoot?

Ok, from everyone's post, it sounds like we can agree on Lone Star in Lockhart for a decent midpoint for Austin and San Antonio.

I was thinking of a Saturday in June, and I currently like the 18th with the 25th as a rain date/backup/second choice.

We can start at 11:00 at Kreuz's and then go to the range, or we can start earlier and go to Kreuz's for lunch afterwards. Meeting at Kreuz's might be a little easier for people to find since it is right on the highway. Of course, anyone is welcome for the shooting or the lunch if they don't want both.

Family is encouraged, as I will have at least two kids with me, my 11 year old son and 18 year old daughter (yeah, I still consider her one of the kids - much to her chagrin). I have a few spare kid's rifles if anyone else brings younger shooters. Single shot .22LR for the kids, and I think I have three or four I can bring.

Unless there is a lot of opposition posted, I think I will take Bullwhip's advice (at least up to a point - I am willing to change) and say we should plan on Saturday, June 18, Kreuz's at 11:00, followed by shooting at Lone Star.

Sounds like a plan. I'll double check the calendar.

For the uninitiated, would "Kreuz's" be Kreuz Market, at 619 N Colorado St in Lockhart?
And is Lone Star at 3795 Dry Creek Rd?

Off the top of my head those sound like the establishments everyone is speaking of...I have been wanting to go back to lone star for about 3 months but lately with long hours of work and reds being 10 minutes from me that has been my best available option...I'll check back closer to the 18th and may be there.

Slight chance I may have a CHL class to teach that day, but if not I'll plan to be there.

Yeah it's understandable when duty calls....I'm on call 24/7 where I work so there is a chance that I could or couldn't be there. Best wishes to all and make sure you wear your decoder ring or CHLbadge if you do go so we can all easily notice our fellow forum members.

Husband and I are planning to attend. Any suggestions on how we will recognize the folks from the group? Or shall I just walk around looking lost, walking up to strangers asking what they're doing after they finish eating? :biggrinjester:

I suppose we could wear our 2010 NRA Annual Meeting T-shirts, but that only helps y'all know who we are.

Interesting. Me and the family will be in San Antonio this weekend. If we get Sea World done on Thursday or Friday I might be able to talk the wife and daughter into some BBQ and shooting. Wouldn't that be cool? I could make it to the DFW and SA/A eat-n-shoot. And if Steve does have a .22 rifle there my daughter just might be able to shoot her first real gun. A lot of ifs there, but I better start letting her shoot my BB gun just in case to teach her trigger control and sighting.

I'm nothing special when it comes to firearms, but it would be cool to meet some of you down there and have gone to both outings.
