I would never try to sell a used gun to a gun store. They have to offer you below market value if they want to make a profit when they resell it. If I were trying to trade a gun in for a new one, I would sell it to a private buyer and use that money for the one I wanted.
In practice, I never buy guns from gun stores. I've only bought one from a traditional gun store--that was my firs gun and before I knew any better. Now, if Academy doesn't carry it and if Gander Mountain doesn't have it for a good price either, I'll buy online. I have a good FFL who works out of his home and has very reasonable fees for transfers.

Good selection, fair pricing, knowledgable staff and very friendly. Bought a few holsters, some accessories and I think I am going to pick up some crimson trace grips from them soon.
Also while I was in there, I overheard them selling a first timer a weapon for home defense. They hit the target right on the mark. Didnt try to take advantage of the newbie, and led him into the direction he needed to go. Explained benefits and disadvantages of certain weapons in the real world, and allowed him to make a desicision based on his best judgement.
Thumbs up!
I was in there this morning and bought an XDm .40 S&W. Very nice and helpful.....ammo prices are good....I had to stop at Bass Pro for another purchase so I checked their price on the same XDm....it was $150 nore than I just paid....I will be back...

I agree that you will always get a lower price selling to a retail outlet but they have to make money to stay in business. Anyway Jackson Armory over off 75 and University is the best I have found for trades. Basically they go on Gun Broker and show you on average what your gun is selling for then give you 75%. The whole process is very upfront and honest. I think their prices on firearms is reasonable although most of what they sell is high end. Huge selection of custom 1911s.
Also Ray's Sporting Good off of singleton is another good place to buy from. The areas not very good so make sure you carry.

That is so weird. B&S has always been one of my favorite stops on that side of town when I am over there. I sure hate to hear they were acting that way. Hopefully it was only one employee and not everyone there.
