There is always the concept of collateral damage and what is acceptable. But, you will note that my proposal would not have denied the officer anything he truly needed. It would merely have raised the cost for some items by making the government buy them through a regular retail outlet instead of from the manufacturer. It might have denied the officer a few options he desired since he would then be limited to just what the civilians could also buy, Any patrol officer could get the tools he needs to do his job, as could detectives and even SWAT. He might not get all of the neat toys he wants, but he could get what he needs.bdickens wrote:"It was the brass...."
Well there you go. So we punish the officer on the street who is trying his best to do the right thing and protect people while getting paid peanuts by denying him the tools he needs to do that very difficult and under appreciated job.
