I want to thank everyone or the feedback.
I have a few rifles/shotguns but need the room for pistols and ammo as well.
My space is somwhat limited so I will have to make some compromises.
Now that I am armed with great feedback and suggestions from your responses I have some homework to do.
What other things do I need to look at when considering a safe??
I love the sound smell of jet fuel in the morning.

One thing I was looking at while I was shopping for one last month was to make sure it has bolts on all 4 sides of the door. I'm honestly not sure how big of a deal it is, but it made me more comfortable.

Just a FYI, there are a lot of youtube videos on the various brands of gun safes. Some of them show how easy it is to break into them.

It's a good safe that will deter the smash and grab thieves. It's so cheap cause it's basically a sheet rock box wrapped in 12g steel.
2/26-Mailed paper app and packet.
5/20-Plastic in hand.
83 days mailbox to mailbox.

We got a super nice Cannon safe off of craigslist through a private dealer. Worth checking.

I picked up the exact same safe from a dealer in Dallas. He sells safes on the side for a little extra cash to help with his hobbies. He sold us the safe for $480 each and my friend had a pickup truck so delivery was free. I am very happy with the safe but I can see my self easily running out of space. My main concern was locking up all my firearms with a child in the house. Any safe is better than no safe or leaving stuff locked up in cases in an emergency situation. I really like the pockets on the door to hold 4 pistols, keys, paperwork and other miscellaneous stuff that you want to store without taking up precious space. I have already picked up a small dehumidifier and plan to add some LED lightning inside to help in dark situations.

The fire ratings are different due to extra panels of fireboard in the interior walls...that's where the difference in the internal measurements comes from: 1/2 " in the top, 4.25" in the front door and back wall, 4.25" in side walls

Good thread... I too learned some good starting points to research. My collection is 99% hand guns, 1 rifle and 2 AR 15's that are in the build stage. I have my hand guns in two smaller safe's but I have out grown them. With the addition of 2 Grandchildren in and out of the house I want a larger safe for obvious security reasons.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've spent a lot of money on guns, bullets and holsters.... The rest I've just squandered away!

You might also try a Gun Safe dealer like Lonestar Gun Safe. They have a lot more options including quite a few safes that are better. Not sure how competitive they would be on price though. They have a bunch in their store. I am not sure what other options there are like that. I bought one recently, but I wasn't looking in that price range.

Shopping for a gun safe, in my opinion, is a lot like shopping for your first AR. There are so many brands and options and the quality and price range is huge. However, when you break it down it still ends up being a personal preference to satisfy your needs. Good luck on your quest.

I am seeing that, I thought deciding on parts to build my first AR was tough only to find Optics even more of a challange and now gun safe's.

I shopped around for safes a while back and looked for a good mover to put one in for me. In talking to him, he told me he has worked on all kinds and moved them for years. For the money, he likes the Winchester safes. He said you can spend a lot more and get more, but in the price range the Winchesters are in they are a bargain. We are happy with ours. We did get the one from TSC on sale. I am considering adding the liberty motion alarm to the safe too. I like the idea it will text you if the safe is jostled. http://www.amazon.com/Libertys-SafElert ... B00HDX0NR2
