More and more teachers are licensed concealed carriers Thank God I live in Utah teachers can carry here
The fault with "schools CAN give authorization," like in Nevada where Amanda was raped and another girl murdered ... is that they don't. Yet Legislators failing to see Stats on anyone asking and being denied, decided there was already that method allowing concealed carry.

I think for the purposes of this forum, it is. it says Texas right there at the top of the page.
The other states can deal with it as suits their needs.

No offense, but the Bible is too important to me to have it misquoted.
That's true, lots of assumptions get made and repeated about events where details are actually unstated.
It could have been a club, a rock, a branch or his own hands or a pointy stick or a shovel or scythe that the farmer Cain used: a point we can all agree on is, it isn't the instrument's fault/doing.

I do not have children so i dont know if this is a common thing at schools but the idea caught my attention.
There are a few programs but the one that I have been a part of is the "Watch D.O.G" program (info at fathers.com). It is a good program but still does very little to add security other than making sure doors are shut and there is an extra set of eyes. It wouldn't stop a shooter as there are realitevely few of the dads there each day and they are unarmed as well. Much of the day they spend in a classroom helping the students (also a worthwhile use of the program and their time). The safety aspects of the program aren't really played up as much as they could be. You are still encouraged to just be a set of eyes and call it in. It's a great program and if your school doesn't have one you should push for it. But it isn't an answer as it stands now. It could be with the right training and empowerment of some of the participants.

Armed protection and response is the only thing that will stop a shooter. Having security/teachers who have the ability to react with force is the only answer once the shooter is in play. Nothing else will bridge the gap between the first shot and the police arriving.

I would think at least one or two of those fathers would have a firearm in the car in the parking lot.
If the situation called for it, it would be much quicker than a police response.

I don't get this. How many kids are killed a year in a mass shooting at a school?
If you really want to save some lives mandate yearly traffic schools.
From http://wiki.answers.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The number one killer of children in the United States that are younger than age 14 years old age are car accidents.
The reason for this is that many car seats 95% of them are installed incorrectly or used incorrectly or not at all.
I know its the in thing right now to think we have a mass school shooting epidemic because thats what the news tells us. I just don't get it. Can't we think for ourselfs and be practical?

Maybe just a typo. Cain used a Glock. I mean, everyone knows Glocks are from the devil right? ;-)

But seriously, all these measures to keep an active shooter out cannot be 100% effective. Well, not unless you want to turn every school into a fortress anyway. So if a shooter gets inside, all those measures will do at that point is impede the ability to escape and evade the shooter, or slow the responders from getting in. So once the shooter finds a way in (and they will if they so desire) you've basically given them a shielded sheep pen to raid.
