I'm left-eye dominant, left-handed, shoot right-handed and with the right-eye.
When shooting I seperate each side to a particular job, the right side in aiming, trigger control, and surveying the weapon for proper operation. Left eye and left side is used for support tasks, malfunction clearing, and more accurate conformation of hits on target with the information used to change the aiming on the right hand.
Short answer: Aint' nutin' wrong, teach him what you can but allow him to develop his own style.

Question to OP: What does he naturally try to do when you hand him a weapon?
