I've thought long and hard about this (and boy, does my brain HURT!), but I definitely side with the gun show organizers on this.

One chance in a hundred is WAY too high for me to be someplace in the vicinity of somebody going "oops". While we (the collective members of this board) may be safe, there's a LOT of other people that simply don't know, don't care, or don't even TRY to follow the key safety rules. Adding to this are situations where Dufus Joe wants to sell his dad's old pistol, but he doesn't know how to operate it. He took the mag out, so he "knows" it's empty, right? :mad5

It's far better to simply respect the rules and accept that they're in place for your safety against those that don't care enough about safety.

And if it STILL bothers ya, just don't go

And when they call to ask for money, say NO! and tell them why.

I agree that this is shameful behavior. I would prefer that they learn to trust their customers, even as I recognize the number of idiots walking around in public without keepers. I have never understood why they could not just post a sign stating that for safety, no loaded guns are allowed inside the show area. So, why post a sign that would technically make something illegal? The idiots will disobey and break the rules and the 99% of the public that understand and obey the rules of safety would obey a politely worded request to not carry inside.

Several people have stated that the signs are required by insurance, but I have never seen a policy that states that. They may exist, but I have never seen one yet. I also do not understand how any insurance policy could legally require a sign that is not legally enforceable (over the request sign that is), such as for gun shows on government owned property.

It's a show for gun collectors. Not concealed carry. Not hunting. Not plinking or IDPA or other shooting sports. They're probably scared ammo will scratch the chamber or something like that. :biggrinjester:
