For a cheap first shotgun for home, Academy has some good lower end ones. I got a pistol from Scott at Austin Gun Liquidators, good customer service, no issues. He had STI pistols in stock so I could look, touch, and feel. I like McBride's, a little pricey, but he always seems to have what I'm looking for, when I want it. I'm not much for extended shopping trips. I want in and out.texjames wrote:I have a friend in Austin that wants to get a security pump shotgun...who you reccomend on that?

Re: Austin Question
Just saw a used Mossberg 500A with 18-inch barrel and black composite stock and forearm (the "Persuader" or "Defender" model, I'm guessing) at GT Distributors for less than $200. They get a lot of police trade in Mossbergs and Remingtons, but this one looked nicer and in better shape than the typical beat up wood-stocked 500AT and 500ATP models they often have. Their prices on new Mossbergs are good too - there's at least one 590 model there for less than $350 new.texjames wrote:I have a friend in Austin that wants to get a security pump shotgun...who you reccomend on that?

Otherwise, Academy is good - Mossberg Maverick 88 (similar to 500, but with safety on trigger guard instead of tang) is under $200 new as is the H&R Pardner Pump (a Chinese Remington 870 knockoff). Both seem to get good reviews overall.
Austin Gun Liquidators also has good prices on Mossbergs.
