Although not impossible, i'd be surprised if Gander Mountain was actually involved in doing that.drjoker wrote:Dude, you know why Gander mountain is more expensive than Wal Mart? They get their stuff FROM Wal Mart! That's why Wal Mart keeps running out of stuff!
I bought a large amount of 380 ammo from Cabela's recently and they asked me for my I.D. and phone number and looked me up in their database. I asked why, they've never asked me for that before. They replied that certain unscrupulous people have been hogging 380 ammo and reselling them at other retail stores (Gander Mountain) and gun shows and they're trying to only sell stuff to their real customers instead.
So, don't get 380 ammo from Gander Mountain and gun shows! They're not buying from wholesalers and selling to customers. They're buying from Wal Mart and then price gouging people.
If you're wanting to get stuff from the Wal Mart that agreed with anti-gun mayor Bloomberg to not sell guns anymore in most of their stores and to REGISTER your gun sales, then you should really reconsider that. ( http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.h ... A96E9C8B63 ) Wal Mart also stopped selling guns at the request of anti gun liberals during Katrina in Louisiana, when residents most desperately needed guns to protect themselves from looters. ( http://www.boston.com/news/weather/arti ... customers/ )Wal Mart also sells fake "made in the USA" stuff. Their brand name labels say "Made in the USA", but is really made by Chinese labor boated into Taipan, an American territory in the Pacific. (Air America Radio broadcast during the whole Tom Delay scandal) Or the merchandise is 99% made overseas and then shipped into the USA where the "Made in the USA" label is sewed on. Since slave labor in gulags in China is so cheap (free), the act of sewing the "made in the USA" label on it makes it more than 50% "made in the USA" and therefore this is legal to do. (this is a common practice in today's multinational manufacturing, so Wal Mart actually is not the only one guilty of this. Automakers, Victoria's Secrets, etc are also guilty of this) When you think about it like that, you'll be surprised to find yourself suddenly NOT buying anything anymore from Wal Mart. Boycott Wal Mart!
You know, I've posted earlier that we're losing our rights, including 2nd A rights, because we're cheap and lazy. Well, here's an example of this. Yes, Wal Mart is cheap, but FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. Please boycott Wal Mart and buy stuff elsewhere such as Whole Foods, HEB, Starbucks, Cabela's, Piggly Wiggly, etc. Thank you, my fellow patriots!

Kudos to the following;
Cabela's NRA support day where they had a sale for NRA members.
Starbucks for choosing to pursue corporate profits instead of politics. They posted no signs for or against guns in their stores.
Whole Foods for giving their American workers a living wage, not installing unemployment causing self-checkout stations, and not posting any 30.06 signs.
HEB and Piggly Wiggly, I just can't find anything negative on the net about them. I just put them there because not everyone has access to Whole Foods.
The best places to shop are those mom and pop joints because the money is circulated locally. In other words, the owners of those mom and pop joints will eventually spend the money on you by being your customer.

Speaking of price gouging, I got an ad circular the
other day from Bass Pro Shops.
They were advertising a Taurus PT111 Millenium Pro (9MM)
for $430!!!
You can go to Academy and buy the same gun for $330 every day.
Why Bass Pro thinks they are doing you a favor by selling it for $100
more than Academy is beyond me.

Because they have lots of "oooh! aaahhh!" stuff to look at, and people will buy it.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:You can go to Academy and buy the same gun for $330 every day.

This is why I'm so excited about Academy coming to town: they're the Kmart of sporting goods. No frills, just deals.

Please let's not start spreading false rumors. There is no American territory named "Taipan".Wal Mart also sells fake "made in the USA" stuff. Their brand name labels say "Made in the USA", but is really made by Chinese labor boated into Taipan, an American territory in the Pacific.
Taipan is a snake found in Australia and PNG, and it's also an old Chinese word originally used to describe a foreign businessman in China or Hong Kong in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It's also the name of a LOT of Chinese restaurants.

But it's certainly not a U.S. possession or territory.

I did misspell Saipan as "Taipan", but it is NOT a rumor. Here is an online article that basically repeats what I heard on Air America Radio:joe817 wrote:Please let's not start spreading false rumors. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/4/28/111729/353 . Stuff you buy in Wal Mart is made in SAIPAN, an American "protectorate", in sweatshops with contracted Chinese labor.
I think we should write letters to Arrow shirts asking them to continue making shirts in the USA. Arrow shirts was the last major American men's shirt manufacturer that still made shirts in the USA. They've now shifted production to China, laying off an entire factory full of Americans. Tell them that we're boycotting their shirts even though we've been loyal lifelong customers. Then, write Wal Mart and tell them to carry the American made Arrow Shirts. We've GOT TO REVERSE THE TIDE OF JOBS FLOWING INTO SLAVE LABOR ASIAN SWEAT SHOPS. People in Asia will thank you for not having to work under slave like conditions and you will get higher quality stuff. Quit being so cheap! Freedom is NOT free! We will lose our financial freedom if we buy foreign slave labor made stuff instead of buying American just because it is "cheaper". I invite you to suddenly realize that a year from now, you will not remember that buck you saved by buying gulag made garbage, but you WILL remember being unemployed because your customers who were American factory workers were laid off. This caused your boss to lay YOU off. Those in the know will spend the dough!

Also, write a letter thanking Dickie jeans for keeping production here in the USA. Attach a receipt for purchase of dickie jeans to the letter. Although my wife hates dickie jeans because she favors designer jeans like diesel, I will only wear the dickie jeans, to her annoyance because they are made in the USA. Here's the kicker, Dickie jeans are cheaper than sweatshop made designer jeans, too. Cool....

Easy to say for those that make a good living.drjoker wrote:Quit being so cheap! Freedom is NOT free!
Pardon me if I am a bit skeptical over something from the Daily Kos and the now defunct Air America.
A good long look needs to be given as to WHY so many companies are moving production over seas. It's a complex answer with no simple resolution.

Re: Gander Mountain shopping
I had some time to kill yesterday while on the way to the shooting range so I stopped in Gander Mountain in Spring. I had never been in a GM before and was blown away by the prices....$9.95 for 50rds 22 LR!! $21 FOR CCI Maxi Mags!! Kimber Ultra CDP $1799.00,
WOW!! They did have some Critical Defense .380 for $24, which really suprised me bc of the rest of the prices, but that is still high. Needless to say, they won't be getting any of my money for ammo or shooting suplies. I would rather pay range prices for ammo!!
On the topic of buying American, I am all for it; however, we live in a modern global market. Unless you are buying produce or artisan/craft goods, very few "American Made" products are soley owned and made American. Even products made in the US are often sourced from overseas or owned by forgien entities. A prime example would be new homes, which are obviously built here in the US. The labor is typically immigrant workers, wood, steel, copper, sheetrock, and many of the basics of building a house are imported. The best way to support your local economy is to spend your money locally becasue if nothing else, the people running the register usually live in your community.
