How many carry more than one gun?

Okay. You have intrigued me.

You can put your hand in your pocket when there is a perceived high threat level. It reduces draw time when you already have your hand on your gun.

Not necessarily. A snubbie that can allow you to fire from within the pocket, yes. But shooting an auto-loader inside a coat pocket is likely to render it a one-shot device. And I'll put a timer any day against an experienced IWB carrier and a coat-pocket carrier. Not to mention it's almost certain you'll need both hands to extract a pistol from a coat pocket (or a SmartCarry), a definite downer in a close-contact encounter. If you encumber your own gunhand inside your clothing, how much effort does it take to physically overwhelm you? Answer: not much.

For those who believe the "New York Reload" is faster than an experienced gunman can execute a mag exchange, I know some guys I'd like you try that against. On the clock. Besides, you'd better be moving to cover while you do this, so everything is predicated on your ability to execute while under stress and on the move. If your BUG is on an ankle or in a pocket, good luck accessing it while you're running.

You don't carry a BUG because your primary may fail (it probably won't), or because you may need additional ammo volume (you probably won't).

The main reasons to carry a BUG are in case you need to defend your primary in a fight, or in case you lose your primary in a fight.

It ain't about reloads or ammo volume. It's about firearm retention. It's about staying in the fight.

Rarely. I think I have done it a max of 2-3 times, usually after reading a post on this forum that scares me (mostly regarding lack of enough ammo on hand).
Normally it is such a pain concealing just one that I don't even consider a second.
Yes, I am lazy and it could be to my detriment.

I typically carry two - one OWB on right side and one in a pocket on the left side. I do this for a number of reasons. First, Murphy lives and while mechanical failures may be extremely unlikely, they do happen. Second, Murphy lives and while it is unlikely for me to need a reload, I want to have one available and for me a NY reload is faster than reloading my primary - and the test is which one is faster for me, not whether someone else can reload faster than they can draw. Also every instructor and gun writer that I respect suggests the same thing. Third, if I see a potential situation developing, it is much less conspicuous to have my left hand on the gun in my pocket than to be clearing my cover garment and grabbing my primary. Fourth, I have a gun easily available to either hand so that if my right hand/arm is injured, I can easily get to the gun in my pocket with my left hand.

I usually only carry one. Since getting my CHL, it has been a surprise to me to find just how big a commitment it is to carry a full size gun, every single day, all day. While my carry gun changes depending on my situation, my regular, Monday through Saturday carry is a full size Colt Commander, two reloads, and a Cold Steel Scimitar. Occasionally on Sundays I will just carry my Walther PPK as I have church, and then I go to the in-laws and I am hugging a lot of people. I get tired of trying to shield the 1911, and I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable if they notice a big hard bump at 5 o'clock. Since getting my license, I have carried 100% of the time, but it takes more discipline than I thought.
I have given a lot of consideration to a BUG, but I have a lot of weight around my waist now with my current load and El Paso is too hot for a jacket most of the time. I would probably be wise to add one, but I just haven't done so yet. I would probably be looking to add a Ruger LCR in an ankle holster if I decided to go that route.

Having a gun accessable to both hands is very important. Murphy, the sneaky son of a gun, is alive and well living at the scene of all gunfights.

The middle of a gunfight is not time to try to diagnose a stoppage. Grab the second gun and go. I also carry my BUG in my left pants pocket, I can walk up to someone with the gun in my hand looking for all the world like some old fat guy with his hand in his pocket.

Speedy competition reloads go down the drain when you are focused on staying alive rather than getting the next double tap into an IDPA or IPSC target. Those targets aren't trying to kill you, you aren't scared out of your wits, and you KNOW where the targets are. In a gunfight or fire fight nothing works as planned. Let's put it this way Markswivel. Those are rather "dated" posters that you are providing as an illustration of your premise. I am hoping that in the spirit of Forum-camaraderie you are simply poking fun at those of us who were a part of the Big Green Machine at one time or another.

Normally I carry 2 (or 3) when I'm by myself or with relatives, but I sometimes 6 like at Church where there are lots of CHLs and one or more Deacons/Pastor etc may not be carrying that day. I rarely carry any spare mags, Church or a vacation trip are about the only times I carry spare mags at all.

Why I always carry 2 or more:
I only have 1 hand, and it may be faster to draw a backup than clear a malfunction in SOME of my primaries, depending on the type, and which type sights are on the one that malfunctioned. (Like Novak ramped "snagless" sights or a PT-709's flimsy plastic low profile snagless rear sights are useless when you need to snag the rear sights on a belt, pocket, shoe sole, etc to rack a slide).... I NEED to snag, like I said, I only have one hand. If I'm carrying my PT92 or any of my Glocks as primary, I only need 1 BUG in case I lose or need to defend the primary. If I'm carrying a PT-709 or other "snagless" gun, I'll carry 3 or more BUGs because I'm not asking the bad guy to rack my slide for me, or sitting down to try to do it if there's no brick corner to use. (Really I can hold the slide and rack the gun by pushing the gun grip on something, but still ...)
