The USPS system updates once a day usually around 1900 if the package passes through a facility. If your package makes to the facility after the update you will not see a change until the next day and in some cases this may be after your mail has already been delivered.

Yes, it is rather hit and miss. I don't usually try and actually ‘track’ anything but in this case I was just a little on edge (private seller, no feedback, gun sight unseen, "no record” of box, MO payment in the hundreds sent off to stranger &c). It worked out, but I'll think twice next time as that was a lot of worry I didn't really need. Anyway thank goodness there are some good eggs left in the world.....(and that apparently shipping guns and ammo is no problem for USPS regardless of the status of ones credentials!)

I have and will sell and buy guns on Gun Broker, but I get real cautious about newbie sellers. I am glad your newbie turned out to be good. i bought a AK from a guy a year ago that changed the address of where he wanted me to send the money. I got real concerned and told him I would only do the deal if he would use an escrow service. he got insulted and threatened me. Then he found out GB policy says to not go through with the deal if either party tries to change contact info or if the guy selling tells you to send payment to po box. He got booted off GB. I don't know if he was legit or not, but he acted squirrely so that was all I needed to know. Other than that I have scored some decent deals on GB.

The Post Office in Plano won't ship hand guns for private parties at all...I know because I tried. One of the local offices even gives you crap about long guns. I found two in my area that know the rules and don't freak when you say "I Have A Gun"... ....to ship. I can assure you though that the rules forbid shipping of hand guns by private unlicensed folks. He may have gotten away with it but he may have just committed a crime while doing it. Fed Ex is the only shipper that allows unlicensed folks to ship and they require overnight(expensive) shipping.

I bought my first from Gunbroker as well, but that was from a man with a shop and as I could pay with my CC and the gun was NIB I didn’t really sweat it. I got a great deal and ended up paying almost $400 less than my local shop wanted, although to be fair 1/4 of that was sales tax which for the most part they couldn't help. I do a lot of buying online (detest high street shopping) and I have only been burnt once but that doesn't decrease the anxiety when you are waiting for the mailman to knock. Nevertheless so far I don't have anything bad to say about GB and will continue to use it in the future...........(understanding that IF i buy from a man in the street then I had better be prepared to pony up for pricy courier shipping)

Wrong, UPS allows it as does Lone Star.

You might want to recheck your stats on that. Both have recently refused me.

Are you sure the vendor wasnt just refusing or unaware of UPS rules?

DHL does not allow it and Lone Star Overnight makes no mention of it on their site but customer service told me it was ok as long as federal and state laws were followed.

Yeah...you caused me to go look at that too. It was me...not a vendor. I occasionally buy and sell guns on gun broker. I don't have a FFL. I am a bit miffed by this. They flat out told me I couldn't ship a firearm unless I was a FFL holder. Lone Star told me the same thing. Reading the requirements above...I should have been allowed to ship. The USPS told me the same about hand guns. I even had one local office refuse to ship a long gun for me. i went across town and shipped from a different location. Frustrating....simply frustrating... .

took USPS 11 days to ship a book from the Dallas Post office to my Post office. Filed complaint and was told to pay more for shipping if I wanted it sooner..Go figure.

Books generally go 3rd class. Paying the regular 1st class rates might get it to where you want it faster.
