PSC, Pearland Shooting Club, is a beautiful mulit-discipline shooting range. It is on FM528 about 5 miles or so west of I45. http://www.psc-range.com/

The women's class meets on the first Saturday of the month. Sign-in starts at 8:30 AM. The class runs until noon. We cover gun safety and guns handling at every class and then run basic shooting drills and finish with an advanced drill such as shooting on the move or shooting multiple targets.

The class is $15 for non-members and $10 for members.

Keltecs and the LCP are both very lightweight and small. The PX4 is going to be a little heavier and bigger. The revolvers are also probably heavier than the keltec or LCP. All of these can be fired DA.

One of the light weight or "Air weight" revolvers would fit the bill nicely. The ammo weighs more than the gun.
If you gave us your location we could help you with your ammo selection. I know Gun Master in Plano has .25ACP ammunition.

I have shot an alloy snubby .38 Special revolver and would not buy one. I am not generally sensitive to recoil, but i found it hard to control.

I'm hoping the ladies can help with both purse and handgun selection. I've carried fairly heavy shoulder bags while traveling and didn't find it particularly onerous. I don't see how a pound one way or the other would make a big difference.

Well I'm about to get a .357 Air Weight. I didn't find it any worse than a 357 steel revolver. When it comes to personal protection, I want the biggest I can get. It might not be pleasant to shoot, but neither is dying.

Recoil is very subjective. If you can handle it, fine. If not, it will be an impediment to frequent practice. I'm just trying to recommend a try-before-you-buy approach.

I'm not very recoil sensitive either but I got a Keltec P11 9mm that i shoot about 30 to 40 rounds thru a couple times a month and that's enough out of that gun The DA trigger and "snappy" recoil is ok for self defense but it's definitely not a range gun
