Annoyed, you really need some serious help. I don't see how you can hold it all in like that. Just turn it loose, man!

Looks that way. I could see the benefit of the coast eroding out in the ocean.LarryH wrote:All the wierdos are in LA and SF (maybe some in Sacramento). I first moved to California when Ronald Reagan was Governer of the State. Having witnessed the slide into the current situation all I can say is that, based on what I saw, Texas is two elections away from slipping into the same place. I appreciate that California is an easy target today, but it hasn't always been that way. Also, it didn't happen over night. It happened slowly because good people became disenfranchised with their government and lost the belief that they could change it. I'm glad I'm here now, I have no desire to return, and I will fight to keep the same thing from happening again.

Speaking as a transplant* (if a duck-and-cover smilie was available, I might put it here), I have no desire to return up north, and I too worry about Texas eventually slouching into an uber-hedonist, fruits-and-nuts, high-tax orbit. I am concerned about the influx of illegal immigrants and transplants who do not share enough of the culture and values of native Texans and are not interested in assimilating to any degree. I would not suspect that California-scale decay is only two elections away, though the state I grew up in has always been , so I have not seen the process that you describe.SRVA wrote:I first moved to California when Ronald Reagan was Governer of the State. I obtained my CHL and registered to vote here as soon as I could, plan to vote on both 4 March and 4 November this year, belong and donate to the NRA and TSRA, am willing to serve on a jury, and wear a wide-brimmed hard-hat at work. Is that assimilated enough? I do not think I can pull off driving a dually and wearing rodeo clothes with any semblance of authenticity.
*I understand this is the polite term for newcomers. I have not yet heard the less polite terms directed toward me within earshot.

Many of us here are old enough to remember what Texas was like before the flood of Yankees that began in the '70's.
Most brought their 'Northern' ways with them and proceeded to try to implement them here.

Re: Another reason to hate California.
Although I am a fairly recent transplant from California to Texas (April, 2006), I have lived here before, having attended UTEP and TAMU back in the 70s. I never forgot that one crucial aspect of Texas grammar though that distinguishes the wannabee from from the true Texan - that "Y'all" is the singular, and "All Y'all" is the plural.

I think you are close, but I always thought "Yall" was one word with no apostrophes!!The Annoyed Man wrote:Although I am a fairly recent transplant from California to Texas (April, 2006), I have lived here before, having attended UTEP and TAMU back in the 70s. Re: Another reason to hate California.
I'm also a new transplant as of Nov 2005. I really like Texas and all its conservative views. I lived in Southern Califonia for 35 years and I finally had it and was able to get the hell out of there. California will have its day in the sun and its gonna be great watching it from afar. Too many liberals running around and people actually listening to them.
