Re: Get Ready for More Self-Defense Encounters and Negligent Discharges
I am willing to bet that the majority of people don't even know about the new law. I am expecting little to no fanfare what so ever. Maybe some of you LTC instructors could put together some kind of class for these newly armed citizens. I am betting fewer people seek an LTC now that they can carry without it. It may help to pick up some of your slack.

Several ranges and instructors including myself already have. Actually history shows after an initial 6 to 12 month dip LTC classes come back and in many cases exceed previous numbers.03Lightningrocks wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:08 pm I am willing to bet that the majority of people don't even know about the new law. I know and I should have expanded my thoughts on this topic but didn't want to get to long winded, earlier. The CHL class touches on it but it was never intended to be a full on cqb or gun handling class. My personal opinion is that anyone who carries should go through a couple of formal classes on a hot range and augment that with regular range time, as well as follow up classes every so often.
I like the idea of constitutional carry but like the idea that responsible citizens would seek out training ahead of exercising that right.

Re: Get Ready for More Self-Defense Encounters and Negligent Discharges
Among the things I emphasize in my LTC classes is that we can only touch the wave tops of many things a student REALLY needs to know when they are carrying a firearm for defense. With the state mandated 4 hours minimum and 6 hours maximum of academic instruction, not counting time for the range, written test, "non LTC presentations," breaks, etc, in my opinion it is certainly not enough training, but it is what it is. I tell students they really need to practice regularly to be proficient and take classes on specific defensive shooting skills. I inform them that I also teach a Defensive Shooting Class as well as an LTC Tune-up Class for those who have had their license for some time. I emphasize that the state no longer requires training or testing for renewal, but if you have had your license for more than four years, the legislature has met at least twice and there are usually some changes. I remember in the days when we had to renew, I would always get a couple of students that had not fired a single round in practice since their initial or last qualification four years ago. Those folks are still out there, but now they have not fired a round in 3, 4, 5, 6, +++ years. I have started to develop a course for those who want to know the laws, but do not want to apply for an LTC. Unfortunately, the general reception I get is "I don't need no stinking class, I know how to shoot." I tell them that is great, but do they know the laws about where they can and cannot carry and when NOT to shoot.
