G2R R.I.P. Ammunition...Thoughts?
So does anyone have any experience with this ammunition? Thinking about this instead of regular hollow points for self defense. I have seen a few videos and looked up a lot of info but want to see if anyone has ever used it and what you guys think? Is it truly "The last round you will ever need?"

pass. Stay with quality Hollow point, such as the SXT/SHT or Gold Dots

There are several threads on the forum with links to reviews. From the reviews I've seen its pretty much junk.

Re: G2R R.I.P. Ammunition...Thoughts?
I have no experience with it other than what Ive read. I have seen videos of penetration tests and they didn't penetrate as deep as they claimed. Still penetrated the FBIs minimum though. All that aside, I personally would not carry this in my carry pistol because it wouldn't look good in court. "RIP ammo. REST IN PEACE. He wanted to kill someone". Thats something a prosecutor or a bad guys family member will say in court if for some reason it reaches that point. It's also one scary looking round. That may also be used against you, even though we all know they probably aren't as lethal as other good hollow points out there. They may be good for shooting at watermelons for YouTube videos. Ill stick to my gold dots.

Gold Dots, HSTs, Critical Defense, etc., etc., etc.........even the venerable Hydro-shok........are all better choices for a defensive bullet, and they don't carry near the potential baggage in court that this bullet might.

I have never tried it, but I wouldn't touch it.
I wouldn't use it as carry ammo if it was supplied at no charge.

Thanks everyone! Got some great feedback. I just came across this and wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were. And I agree with you all. Plus I did see pricing and it's pretty ridiculous!
Re: G2R R.I.P. Ammunition...Thoughts?
Placement, penetration, and expansion. The first is up to the shooter. The rest...
Every review I've seen of this ammo, like the other posters, is that it's junk. It's essentially frangible ammunition, designed to fly apart after impact. In soft gelatin, it -might- make the FBI's minimum, but what about the (very real) possibility of hitting bone? Odds are, you'll have a bunch of little brass or copper pieces flying everywhere inside the target; it still could very well -kill- your attacker, but it probably won't -stop- him.
Stick to SAAMI-rated ammunition with tried-and-true bullet designs, and avoid the expensive boutique ammo.

Re: G2R R.I.P. Ammunition...Thoughts?
I'm a big ANTI-RIP on here. Tested it, tried it, jammed it, hated it. It's more of a gimmick then anything. It's a good sales pitch, but you don't get what they promise by any means. Pathetic penetration, terrible weight retention, weak against obstacles, and a legal nightmare. This bullet is likely to do little relevant damage, and the "shrapnel" is pointless unless you're intending to let your attacker kill you after your make them very angry. I cannot say enough against this ammunition.
Listen to TAM and AndyC if not me.
1: It's effective for our intended purposes.
2: The legal drama you may get from shooting somebody with a bullet that is "designed to mutilate," rather than stop a threat, is possible to be worse than what your attacker might have done.
My suggestions, in proper order:
1: Critical Defense
2: Gold Dot
3: HST
Can't go wrong with those!

I agree with most responses and don't see an advantage either. A better idea would be to step up a caliber or two in order to increase the amount of energy a projectile can deliver.

A better idea would be to lose the stupid name of the round, use more proven SD bullets, and repackage the round in a non-descript box.bmwrdr wrote:I agree with most responses and don't see an advantage either.
