The holster is homemade from leather purchased at goodwill. You buy a nice purse at goodwill, taking care not to buy a brand name purse because they are more expensive. A non-brand name handbag or purse that you can cut up to make a fancy holster costs $2. Tandy Leather also has a nice scrap bin if you're at their retail store location.

The grips are going to be 3d printed with $2 in plastic. I have a 3d printer.

Tricking out a 1911 like this will easily double the original price. Adding the holster and belt will add another $300.

I want to figure out the probability of failure with a quality 1911 that is priced similarly to a Glock.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that you can buy a quality 1911 that is priced similarly to a Glock.

I bought a Remington 1911 R1 in 45, for $500 new in late December last year. Put 500 rounds through it so far. Not a single issue. Very tight clearances, not much slop at all. I carry on it occasion and can shoot it very accurately.

I don't own a thing chambered in .44 Special, although I do have a few .44 Magnums, albeit none by S&W. The revolver in question is a 27-2, not a 21-2. N-frames chambered for the big-bore rounds really chew up my thumbs, so I stick with Rugers for the heavy-caliber stuff.

I have M&Ps instead of Glocks for the plastic framed pistol and a TRP for the 1911. Both are extremely reliable (and the TRP is really nice). I have somewhere just north of 35,000 rounds through my M&P 9 Pro. Only issues I have had with feeding was due to trying to slam feed a magazine on reloads. When I stopped trying to make the pistol do that, I had no more issues. Runs like a sewing machine. I have somewhere north of 20,000 rounds through my M&P 45 and have had no issues other that a couple that were caused by a reloading mistake by me. Don't have near as many rounds through the TRP but no functioning issues with it either.

I took a Tactical Pistol Operator Class at CSAT (Paul Howe) this spring. He shoots Glocks although he owns a 1911. I asked him what he used when he was in Delta. He told me they were issued two 1911s, an MP5, and an M-4. I asked why 2 1911s. He said that there were more than a few times when they had to do multiple missions in a day. Cleaning the 1911 and getting it ready to go back out took a while so they had two of them. He said he can get his Glock cleaned and ready to go again much faster than a 1911. He also told me that just about all of the problems people have with pistols at his classes are with 1911s (either they don't know how to run them or they have mechanical problems).

I like my M&Ps and my TRP but my full size M&P 45 is my go to pistol and I carry my M&P 45 C whenever I can.

Ed Brown (feels like Bently of the pistols) is a Big, Beautiful and smooth like silk. The only negative it costs 7X more than glock 17L (think honda of pistols)

I have both models of the SR1911 and 1000+ rounds through both without a problem one. FMJ and Hp both guns work great.

I have the Commander size Ruger 1911 and love it. I have put at least 2000 LSWC reloads through it, a couple hundred rounds of ball and at least 100 rounds of 230gr JHP without issue or jam. I have used the Ruger 7 rounders that came with it but carry it with 8 round Chip McCormick mags. Accuracy is good, fit and function have been great.

(the Pro has no front serrations and always has a serial which starts with "CRG").

Actually, there are some very rare ones out there with DEA, and FBI prefixes. You have to be a very good boy to get one of those.
