Austin area - new Cheaper Than Dirt store

Earlier this month, discount mail order retailer Cheaper Than Dirt opened a new retail store off Sundance Parkway in Cedar Park (Correction - Round Rock; thx, Texsquatch), a suburb of Austin. (It's about 5 or 6 doors down from the Kohl's department store in the La Frontera shopping center.) I stopped by there today to look around.

The store is very modern inside, and has a lot - and I do mean a LOT - of guns. In addition to the usual Taurus, Glock, Colt, Sig, Springfield, Ruger, and S&W guns, it also had a number of less common firearms, including some from Barrett, Kriss, Les Baer, Ed Brown, Dakota, Chiappa, and Boberg. Surprisingly, they had a pretty large assortment of "high end" shotguns by Westley Richards, Holland and Holland, and Parker . . . the most expensive I saw was an engraved Parker SxS for a mere $295,000. (Yes, you read that right. More expensive than many homes, even today. And it wasn't the only one with a six-figure price tag.)

Cheapest gun I recall seeing was a Mosin Nagant for $130.

Large selection of ammo, some tactical gear and accessories. Salespeople I talked to actually seemed to be knowledgeable and courteous.

I've had mixed experiences with this company's mail order business making me a poor choice to be a cheerleader for them, but if you're in the general area, you owe it to yourself to at least stop by and browse. (Me? I left empty-handed today. Decided not to buy a shotgun where the sales tax alone would be as much as a decent car.)

Took me some time to figure out the mailing from Cheaper Than Dirt was NOT the Cheaper Than Dirt store in Ft. Worth. In fact I looked up the number for CTD in Ft. Worth today and found that it is now going by Fort Worth Guns. That may have something to do with their D rating with the BBB. Then again people get the mailout CTD confused as I use to with the actual store.
Just to be clear I do not care for either places.

I am boycotting CTD for life, after their antics during the shortages and boosting their prices extremely high just because they had the products. It is their business and they are entitled to do such I am also entitled to spend my money at reputable places that are consumer friendly all of the time.

I'm with Salty1 here.
These guys were trying to sell 100 round boxes of CCI 22 Long Rifle for $100 a box. Not that I needed to buy any 22 Long Rifle since I have kept around 10k rounds for decades.
I am running low on 22 Short HP's. I've had 5k rounds ordered for over a year now and CCI told my dad in September that 22 Short was not currently in production, to make every shot count!

I did see (8) 100 round boxes of CCI 22 Short HP's at the Decatur gun show for $20 a box. I wasn't running that low....

i went with my friend to sell his car to carmax and saw fort worth guns next to it. while waiting for the appraisals and paperworks i went to check it out. saw the same people from CTD ... turned right back around!

I prefer GT also, but what about Buds? I admit I never purchased anything from Bud's, but didn't they do the same as Cheaper and gouge some folks. I'm trying to find the post, but I'm sure I read somewhere that Bud's refunded a lot of layaways and hiked up prices in customers.

I am confused about CTD. We were driving to Cabela's in Ft Worth and passed the CTD store. My son-in-laws father told me the Ft Worth store was not affiliated with CTD on line but if you ordered a firearm online from CTD it would be shipped to the Ft Worth location for DFW area buyers.??? They both have the same logo.

These are the people who were selling 9mm PMC boxes for $75 during the great ammo shortage of 2013. Just remember who they are before you give them any business.

I've purchased several items from Buds and never had any issues. I even ordered three pistols (two different orders) right in the middle of the panic around January/February of 2013 and the prices were great. I know some people have had issues with Buds. They do a lot of volume and you can't please everyone, but I've never heard of them price gouging.

A few years back a friend of a friend referred me to someone he knew personally at CTD, I still have the emails. They were responsive, but not anywhere near competitive. Ended up buying from Academy Sports (Sig Mosquito). I've never found CTD to be CTD.

If I remember correctly, I believe they also stopped selling ARs after Sandy Hook for a couple days until they realized the backlash they were about to get from gun owners.

I assumed they halted sales in order to update their site for the increased prices, not for any political reason.

I can't document this, but I was told that CTD was originally owned by a couple who divorced, which led to stores in different towns with the same name, but vastly different policies. The store in McKinney has high prices on ammo, but at least they're not rude to you like has been reported from another store.
