There's no need to depress the slide lock. The notch in the slide is designed so that pulling the slide back will cam the slide lock down.

In your earlier post you commented on the easy racking slide,mine has always been pretty stiff still to this day after a few hundred rounds

Guess I minimized the effort...lol. Still a good effort, but manageable. Think it's a little easier than my Baretta 96, though.

My brother recently purchased a new Ruger SR1911 full size. After a good cleaning we took it out to the farm for a trial run. We both have a couple years experience in IDPA and 3-gun and the gun shot maybe 3 rounds before it started malfunctioning. During fire the slide wouldn't fully close into battery. This occurred with the factory mag and Wilson mags using winchester white box 230gr ball and federal 230gr ball. We thought maybe it just needed breaking in but it just got worse the more we shot it. Eventually it turned into a single shot handgun to the point the slide would seize and the first round wouldn't even load. It felt like there was a crude, metal on metal resistance between the slide to frame fit and it took massive force to make the slide cycle.

Needless to say it got shipped back to Ruger, who ended up replacing the "barrel and slide assembly" according to my bro's words and since then it has eaten a couple hundred rounds of various ammo flawlessly. I liked the trigger and quality/fit/feel of the gun and it shot very accurately. Hope to see more good results in future IDPA matches.

Your story sounds like the problem was galling. It's pretty common when two tightly fitted pieces of stainless steel rub together. If there is insufficient lubrication, metal builds up between the parts and they can actually seize and effectively weld themselves together.

Ruger 1911 Update:

The man at our local gun store checked it out and was able to cycle, chamber, and fire 3 rapid rounds in his ballistics room without error.

Afterwards, I was able to successfully fire 6 rounds of 230 gr ball ammo at our place without fail!

Analysis: I had NOT fully retracted the slide to engage the first shell in the magazine!! My bad...my error... Problem solved. BTW, I really like the feel of the pistol, and ease of cocking, trigger action.

I've put a little over 600 rounds through my SR1911. Love it.

Mine has not had any failures to feed with any 230 grain FMJ loads. About 400 rounds. These were American Eagle, CCI Blazer, Winchester White Box, and Federal Champion.

No failures with 100 rounds each of 230 grain Federal HydraShok or 185 grain Remington Golden Saber. I've shot these one handed, two handed, weak handed, and strong handed. So these are what I carry in it, currently the HydraShoks.

It did have FTF with Winchester 230 grain Personal Protection and Winchester 230 grain Ranger JHPs.

I use Wilson 7 round 47D mags with Tripp Research followers, so can't say how the supplied Ruger mags work.

My front sight hasn't broken yet. Maybe a good batch.

A fine pistol at a reasonable price.

I carry mine often.

I know you said "the ammo is correct", but just to check, the pointy end of the bullet is pointing forward, right? Sorry - just had to ask. Sounds like some mechanical obstruction to the gun - if it were mine, it'd be on the way to Ruger without much thought about it. Have you tried manually putting a bullet in and seeing if you can see where it gets stuck?

FWIW, I bought my son a Commander sized SR1911 last winter, and he's put quite a number of rounds through it. He's had no problems with it -- he holsters it in a fully kydex (as opposed to a kydex-leather hybrid) and isn't rubbing the sights against anything - no problem with the sights getting loose, yet. His experience has even convinced me that, funds permitting sometime, I may add one of them to my menagerie.[/quote]

Hey guys, a little late to the party. As my dad said, he bought me the CMD last year. I have only had one FTF and that was during my CHL qualification. I believe that it was my fault though as it was towards the end of the qualification and I had gotten a little weak wristed. I mainly use the Winchester White Box ball ammo for fun, and other than the one FTF, it has never had an issue. I have the Hornady CD ammo loaded in all of the mags and have never had an issue with the CMD shooting the CD ammo when I've rotated rounds. It has always functioned well with the Ruger 7rd, two Ruger 8rd mags, and two CMC 8rd mags that I have. I don't know of a round count, but it has been well abused. I had read multiple threads about the front sight issues, and took the chance because of how well Ruger CS responded to the issues, and that they had already identified the problem and taken care of it. I know some guys on another board had even asked to have the replacement sight replaced with their (Ruger) fiber optic sight when they sent their gun in for fixing and were given it because of the "inconvenience". FWIW, my wife has a Kimber Tac Pro and the quality, fit and finish of the Ruger is right there with her Kimber. It is my EDC in a Alien Gear 2.0 as well as in a Blackhawk Serpa for around the ranch. Every once in a while, Dad will still ask if I want to trade the Ruger for his XDS 45 . All in all, I love this gun. I've have/had several different pistols, including those little black ones that start with a G, and I would not kick this gun to the curb for any of them. I would highly recommend this gun for anyone wanting a 1911.

They are great guns I own both the commander and the full size . I've fired hunderes of rounds through both with not one FTF or FTE. Both are easy to clean.
