Question about Winchester safe at Academy (UPDATE)

is much easier than a dolly of just about any configuration. However, it also helps if the safe is already on a pallet or you can get one to put in on for moving. Seems many folks that have bought a safe and had only one guy bring it in was using one of these. They also brought the safe on a truck or trailer with a lift on the back that they could roll this right off onto the driveway.

I thought about renting a pallet Jack. We unloaded it off the truck ok.
I bave the area prepped. The safe is on a pallet so if I can jack it on the narrow side I can fit it thru the door.

I can't believe I'm asking this but what would be the best way to get the safe off the pallet once it is in position?

Good question; 1/2 half of my garage is enclosed into a room that the safe is going into that is airconditioned and carpeted, it has a 2 foot stepup to the entry to the utility room. The step up is an inch or so lower than the base of the safe on the pallet so the plan is to place the safe in front of this step up, unbolt it from the pallet and slide it off the pallet onto the stepup. At least thats the plan.

I've had my safe moved three times. One of those times, once the safe was at the front door, they somehow got it off the dolly (can't remember that part) and they had 2 metal pipes (very heavy pipes). They would roll the safe on one pipe and when about to be off the pipe, they would place the second pipe under safe and roll safe, pick up 1st pipe when safe was fully rolling on the 2nd pipe and then keep repeating the process. It was too heavy to try to push on my carpet/flooring or course. There were 2 or 3 guys.

The original mover (guy who originally sold the safe) had a dolly that had rotating feet/legs....odd contraption....can't remember how it worked, but he got the safe installed all by himself. He did have a lift on his truck.

I only have to move it 10 feet, The pipe rolling idea was my back up to the pallet jack.
I am going to try the jack first because once I unbolt it from the pallet I wont be able to get it back on.

The 2 guys that delivered my safe used a dolly similar to this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-10 ... /100057209

They had several sheets of plywood that they laid on my floor and rolled the safe on the plywood to protect my floors.

They rolled my 1450 lb safe across stained concrete in the hallway, carpet in my bedroom & closet, and ceramic tile in the master bathroom. Thanks to the plywood, they didn't leave a single mark.

One of the two works with me and he's only about 5' 6" tall. The two of them made it look easy.

I used a dolly like this as well. Myself and two teenage sons. Tilt safe, slide dolly under safe, tilt onto dolly, center on dolly and roll. Reverse steps when near safe's new location. Walk into place. Marked concrete through holes in safe floor, walked safe away, drilled holes, walked safe back into position, installed anchors. Piece of cake.

My safe is in my shop since our house is so small (my shop has more sq ft than the house ) I welded two brackets on the safe top and used my loader to drop the safe down on the lag shield bolts.

The safe is finally in and bolted to the slab. Turns out the appliance dolly worked the best along with a few friends( well maybe not anymore).
I want to thank everyone on the forum for their advice.
Now to fill it up, have to go as Mrs FL450 is waiting to regain some closet space.
