If you're referring to Blazer ammunition, it shoots just like anything else. You just can't reload the cases.patterson wrote:any one have any issues with this ammo, just wondering because I picked some up cheap but realized my indoor range may not allow it but if not I can practice with it outside

There's a range in Pasadena that prohibits all Blazer ammunition.

Why not? You just need to melt them down into ingots or something, then run those through your case-making machi... Um, hey, does anyone know where I can get a case-making machine?Excaliber wrote:If you're referring to Blazer ammunition, it shoots just like anything else. Re: aluminum cased ammo
Blazer ammo is the only ammo I have ever used that had aluminum casing and I haven't used it in years (I didn't have issues with it. I just decided to use different ammo). The only issue I have heard about is it doesn't help pull the heat out of the barrel like brass does. This only matters if you are firing many rounds (fairly rapidly). It can cause a condition where it cooks off rounds. Maybe they are afraid this may happen? I don't know...

Re: aluminum cased ammo
Have shot thousands of rounds of Blazer 9mm aluminum case, nary a problem. I am skeptical that it could cause some kind of cook-off problem. I suspect ranges that ban aluminum cases do so because they don't want to separate them from the brass ones they sell to remanufacturers. Wouldn't surprise me if the same ranges ban steel case as well.

I doubt thats really the case cause no different separating the aluminum from brass than steel cases from brass and everywhere i know allows steel cases. Just probably still scared of aluminum or maybe insurance reasons, myself I have never had an issue with blazer aluminum but it was always a last choice deal for meELB wrote:Have shot thousands of rounds of Blazer 9mm aluminum case, nary a problem. Re: aluminum cased ammo
as for issues with firearms .... some firearms (KelTec Sub 2000 carbine for example), particularly blowback design, do not always reliably handle aluminum cases. Similar to steel cases, aluminum doesn't properly retract it's size after firing, unlike brass cases, which makes for sticky or poor extraction/ejection. I doubt that's a concern of the "range". I figure the "range" does NOT want to sort out the aluminum .... and unlike steel cases, it can't be easily removed with a big magnet

Re: aluminum cased ammo
I think that actually is the reason ranges don't like steel cased ammo. Aluminum does make it more difficult to separate, though, because while with steel cased stuff you could at least use magnets, but aluminum isn't magnetic just like brass.PBR wrote:I doubt thats really the case cause no different separating the aluminum from brass than steel cases from brass and everywhere i know allows steel cases. Re: aluminum cased ammo
I should have elaborated. The ban on Blazer by the range I mentioned was due to a catastrophic event. They have on display a revolver (S&W I think) that blew up. They have the ammo, box and gun to back up their case for banning it. It's brass cased ammunition, not aluminum or steel cased. I have never asked for the details, but next time I'm there I'll see what they say.ELB wrote:Have shot thousands of rounds of Blazer 9mm aluminum case, nary a problem. Re: aluminum cased ammo
Brass can cook off too. It takes firing rounds rapidly. Aluminum just happens faster. Most people don't fire enough rounds much less fast enough for this to occur in either aluminum or brass.ELB wrote:Have shot thousands of rounds of Blazer 9mm aluminum case, nary a problem. Re: aluminum cased ammo
I have fired a bunch of CCI BLAZER in both aluminum and brass and never had any issues. The aluminum was always in 9mm though.

Re: aluminum cased ammo
Really sticky in the tubular magazine of a lever gun - looks like it has sharper edges then brass
Shot one box of 50 - .44mag in a Marlin and had to be very careful all the rounds were out of the mag as they would just hang up in the mag tube

It's easy to separate steel cases with a magnet to resell the brass. Sorting aluminum cuts into their profit margin.PBR wrote:I doubt thats really the case cause no different separating the aluminum from brass than steel cases from brass and everywhere i know allows steel cases.
