Got tired of waiting for single stack glock!

Post by CC Italian »

Well I have been busy at work and haven't had time to be on the forum lately. Like the title says. I did hold a glock 42 which also felt great for a little gun but the price tag and .380 were a deal killer. So I broke down and got a shield in 9mm for $409.

Just ordered a crossbreed mini tuck and have put 125 rounds down range of pmc and federal hst 124 grain standard pressure without a hiccup. It came down to the XDS 4.0 in 9mm and the shield in 9mm. Both felt great in the hand. XDS was a little aggressive with grip texture and the shield was a little to slick (not quite aggressive enough but still good). Loved the 4.0 idea. It is basically a polymer CCO and wouldn't be any harder to conceal then the shield but in the end the $100-150 price difference made me say no.

Another reason I got the shield is I really couldn't tell the difference between it and my 25 oz S&W 908s in recoil. There is a little more muzzle blast and flip with the shield but surprisingly the 6oz of weight loss made no difference in snappiness or push to the hand if you will. Also, since I have long skinny fingers the shield and the xds were a perfect fit for all three fingers on the grip with no hang off and run flush with the base of the grip with the standard mag. Finally, someone has made a grip where I don't need a pinky extension!

Looked at several others, PPS, Kahr LC9 etc etc but this is the only one that worked for both my wife and I. This is basically the smallest package in a single stack nine that I can get a full grip and still be comfortable to shoot all day. I think the xds and PPS both come in a close second and would also be great options for me but I saw no reason to spend the extra coin when this did all I required.

Might post pics but I am lazy this weekend!

One more thing I forgot to mention and I was worried about it at first. My current summer carry iwb is a glock 27 with a crossbreed supertuck which doesn't print at all. I was worried that even though the shield was shorter in length and width that it would be harder to conceal because it is taller in height due to what is to me a full grip. Well I put it in my old Galco UDC holster for my Glock 27 just to see and it actually fits pretty good surprisingly and guess what? Even though it is 4.6 inch in height instead of the glocks 4.17 it actually does print even less! The height wasn't a big enough difference in concealment but the width made a huge difference. One more plus for the shield!

Good choice, the Shield is my EDC gun now. I'm waiting for my Crossbreed to come in as well -- I'm switching to appendix carry, so I got the newer holster style and a nice new belt to fit my significantly smaller body now (lots of weight loss in last several months).
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

I love my Shield on days that I am not able to carry my Glock 30s.

I personally do not like the XD's because of the grip safety. Just a personal thing.

Wore it out tonight in a fitted dress shirt for dinner and was asked by my dad why I was not carrying. Lol! When I pressed my shirt skin tight against my side you could still barely see it. :thumbs2:

I highly recommend the use of Talon heat on rubberized grips. Made my already comfortable Shield grip a LOT more comfortable.

An inexpensive investment, all you have to do is clean your stock grip with rubbing alcohol to remove oils and grime, then press the grips into place. Heat them up with a hair dryer or heat gun, then press into place again. If you decide later on that you don't like them, all you have to do is peel them off.

Each set is custom cut for a specific model gun, you can't go wrong !

The set for the Shield included a strip to go around the extended mag, matching it to the handgrip.

I have also put Talon rubberized grips on all my Glocks, including the new 42, and my Kahr CW9.

Lots of good places to buy them on e-bay with free shipping:

Have been a Shield 9 owner for approx. 3 months. Great little gun which is easily concealed. 500 rounds down the tube with a mix of ammo types and no issues of any type.
