Another cop dead
If you have to spray somebody with mace, you probably have a good reason to shoot them. Unfortunately, this was one of those cases. And why did the passing motorist have to give the guy a warning!?! They did not say whether the passing motorist had a handgun license, just that he was a Marine.
The guy just shot a cop! I'm sorry, but that's enough to justify me pulling over and shooting you to death. If you'll kill a cop then you'll kill anyone. You deserve to be dead at that point.
I'm sure it will be the officer's fault though. I mean, he probably didn't give fair warning before he tried to defend himself. I'm sure it was the out of control gun laws and conservative talk radio that caused this. Gimme a break.

Pretty sad.
It appeared to me that the officer, unfortunately, turned his back to avoid the possible bounceback or drift of the OC spray. I was unable to determine from the video the position of the driver's face when sprayed, but suspect at least his eyes must have been covered or turned away as he sure came back with the pistol quickly.

Negative. OC is an intermediate force tool, and its use is justified in situations that would not call for deadly force.govnor wrote:If you have to spray somebody with mace, you probably have a good reason to shoot them.
Unfortunately, we don't know what led up to that segment of video.

Yep, lots of "unknowns" for some of us. Just guessing that the Marine mentioned may have been in the oncoming black vehicle (jeep?) on the road. And that driver likely had a pretty good vantage point for observing the incident - including what appeared to be the shooter running over the officer with a front tire as he drove away.
With that shooting being pretty much in Uncle Mas' backyard, I suspect more details will be forthcoming one of these days under "Lessons Learned" ...

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you feel that your life or the life of the person you are trying to protect is in immediate danger you dont have to give a warning right? Had I been in this guys shoes and my wife and son were with me I dont think I would have given a warning.New Story wrote:Floyd and his son — who was with him — say Floyd warned Kenney before shooting him. A passenger in Kenney's car said there was no warning.
But then again having my wife and son with me bring up a whole other scenario. I know we all have gone over what to do incase of a house fire or tornado touch down. But how many of us have a set plan for scenarios such as this. I think Ill go start another thread so this one does not get high jacked.
My condolences to the family of the fallen officer.

Quote: "A passenger in Kenney's car said there was no warning."
Unclear here how long afterwards the second shooting took place, but that passenger likely got at least a partial dose of the OC that the officer put into the driver's side window. Kenney, as well as the the passenger, may have been having a very difficult time seeing, or even breathing at the time. It does sometimes take a few seconds for the effects of OC to set in - and on a small percentage of people, it has little or no effect ...

There is a lot of history to this case. You might want to read up on it.govnor wrote:The guy just shot a cop! I'm sorry, but that's enough to justify me pulling over and shooting you to death. If you'll kill a cop then you'll kill anyone. You deserve to be dead at that point.
Other LEOs I've discussed it with agree: Kenney was not justified, but Cpl. McKay's badge-heavy attitude in a small rural town contributed directly to his own death.
McKay, sadly, was one who never understood the difference between "Peace Officer" and "Law Enforcement Officer".
The NH Attorney General's investigation took about 15 minutes. Before the blood had dried, she declared both McKay and Floyd justified in their actions.
The odd thing is that Floyd is more anti-social, anti-cop than Kenney ever was, and has had numerous negative run-ins of his own.

Terrible event. But I agree: this has been discussed before.

Ah, I hadn't heard about it. I'm assuming the news story came up again because the video was recently released.Skiprr wrote:Terrible event. But I agree: this has been discussed before.
