Help me choose a safe from this list
Let's say you hypothetically had around $800 in Academy gift cards. Let's also say the primary purpose of the safe was to keep a growing 3 year old honest, as well as let momma store some papers and such in there.
Counting tax and shipping all of these fit the bill. Which should I choose?
Sentry 14
Liberty 18
Cannon 14
Cannon 24
I'm leaning hard to the Cannon 24. What say you all?

For another $100.00 you can get cannon 48 at Tractor Supply and have plenty of room for expansion. It weighs 680 lbs. it isn't one of those "super safes" but I bought it to keep the firearms away from children (mostly the neighbors cause my kids understand). It has a plug for lighting and or a humidity control device.

get one bigger, invest in a nice safe, have a budget of 2-3K. You will not regret it. Target weight 1500 lbs.

None of those are big enough.

If you're limited to those safes, then yes, go with the big one. You will never regret bigger. BOLT IT DOWN!!!
When I was looking at safes, I looked at Academy and none of theirs fit my criteria.
I wound up buying a Champion Triumph T-60 from The Safe Company in Garland. Take note of the pictures on the front page of The Safe Company's website of a Champion safe that went through a devastating house fire, but the contents were unscathed.
It's 50" wide and weighs 1450 lbs. It cost about $3K, delivered and bolted down.

Re: Help me choose a safe from this list
In some households, the hardest step is getting Mama to see the need and approve of the purchase, AND to give up space in the house to put the safe. It sounds like you have those accomplished. I have the Sentry 14, and with a shelf in place, it will not hold my Mosin Nagant or my M1 Garands. I'm sure some of the long shotguns would not fit either. The Liberty has a lifetime warranty (whatever that is worth) and is taller/ wider than the small Sentry (one year warranty) and the small Cannon.
Buy the biggest, heaviest safe you can afford and put in your home. Tall is good. You WILL grow into it. Get it delivered and installed with bolts. Get one with an electrical outlet and light. You need some sort of humidifier inside and those little throwaway packets are a pain.
Go on You Tube and watch some of the gun safe videos. They are informative and will teach you what to look for in a good safe.

I have the Cannon 24 - so you're leaning the right way? No buyers remorse here. I bought at local store, carried it home and installed in closet (with help, of course) so no freight involved and bought on sale to boot.
The pocketed door panel is very nice.

Re: Help me choose a safe from this list
I have the 500# Winchester 24 version from Tractor Supply and the door panel is indeed nice. I'm kinda' protective of my guns; ergo, the 24 only holds about 12 scoped long guns...stacked alternately in sleeves. YMMV.WinoVeritas wrote:I have the Cannon 24 - so you're leaning the right way? One of these is on my "to buy" list: http://www.libertysafe.com/safe-fatboy-safes-ps-9.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And yes, SWMBO is on-board with it.

Think I'll go for the Cannon 24 then. It's the biggest one that Academy has that will fit in the closet. Now we'll see if a store has one to avoid shipping.

I like the Cannon24 too. over 400 LBS. that would be perfect for all my hand guns & a few of my rifles.

I have a metal cabinet with a simple key lock. I wouldn't need a full on safe to keep the kids out.
However, these safes look nice. One thing to think about - do you have more long guns or pistols. Some of these safes (Liberty) are more geared to long guns I think. The Cannon does look nice.

Re: Help me choose a safe from this list
Im more worried about theft. I dont have kids around the house. Then again whats to keep a thief from taking the whole safe?
At best it would slow them down. I live in the country & my house is hidden from the road & other houses.
I do have a good insurancde policy & have all the S/Ns Make & Model of all my guns on an external drive (Flash drive).
