My New Ruger SR1911 Commander

#1

Post by jl39775 »

My SR1911 Commander was delivered Tuesday. I shot 250 round through it yesterday. Wow, this pistol shoots straight. Very first round at 10 yards hit bullseye. Only issue I have was the screws in the grip came loose. I have blue loctite but don't want to use it. I hear O rings work great. Any ideas?

Looks and sounds nice. Yes to the O-rings. You could loc-tite them if you thought you wouldn't be changing grips very often. The blue is somewhat removable right? 242? Don't use the "Red" 271 or whatever. They are both in red tubes, so I get confused.

Just noticed that you are in my neck of the woods. Where did you order it from if you don't mind sharing?

I found it on slickguns.com via Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore. $679 w/free 2 days shipping to Academy in Webster. Academy charged $40 for the transfer.

I didn't realize Academy took deliveries and did transfers. Nice.

I second what cheezit said and I have also used blue loctite and I have never had a problem. You sure do not want to use Red loctite unless that is the grips you want for now on.

Grip screws that are torqued down snugly shouldn't come loose. The only time the screws holding the grips on any of my guns come loose is when I unscrew them. For detail cleaning the removal of the grips is necessary. Locktite in this application is a pain.

Use #10 rubber washers under your screws to keep em down much easier than locktite

I use blue locktite to secure the grip screw bushings to the frame & then just snug down the grip screws.

I've thought about buying rubber O-rings for them but, honestly, I would be fixing a problem I've never had with any of my 1911s. :headscratch

For anyone who wants the O-rings, here is a thread about them on the COTEP forum: http://www.cotep.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5489

It's not mine but I believe that's a small sticker that is put on at the factory during the inspection process. They come in different colors but I have no idea if the color has any significance.

Oh my - that is one good looking 1911! Our Ruger SR40 is way fun to shoot and very accurate, I'd love to have that 1911.
