Glock owners: Henning Battlehook

I originally considered putting this in another location (accessory sales), but felt this was good general-purpose info if you're a Glock carrier.

I came across a demo of the Henning Battlehook a few months ago and was really pleased with what Henning Walgren (the inventor) had done. In a CCW situation, you may find yourself in a situation where you can only operate a firearm with one hand. Me, I used to have TruGlo TFO sights on my Glock. They're excellent sights, but the sloped rear right made it impossible to try to "hook" your sights for a one-handed slide rack. And given the plastic construction of the factory Glock rear sight, you can pretty much kiss that idea goodbye.

Most folks here know I'm a certified Glock armorer. I know my way around the pistols, but it's a lot like being the Maytag repairman. I don't get many calls for help However, I DO carry a special set of Battlehooks in stock that are designed with a wider rear cut, which are more suited for concealed carry. A 1911 with the GI guide rod can be racked one handed without sights too. The full length guide rod was a solution for a problem that didn't exist. The first change I make to a new 1911 is to put a standard GI guide rod and recoil spring plug into it.

These sights stand up a little bit proud of the OEM low profile sights that came on the gun, but they present a vastly better sight picture and you can hook them on a belt or table edge or something to rack the slide, just like with the Battlehook. The front sight is a large "express" style tritium charged lamp surrounded by a phosphorescent circle in either day-glo orange or day-glo yellow. Mine are orange. In bright sunlight or under really bright indoor light, the orange/yellow insert is charged up by the light and glows very brightly, making the eye naturally go right to that bright colored dot. In transitional light while moving from bright light to darkness, the colored insert continues to glow but diminishes in a fairly short time...say a minute or so....until the green tritium lamp takes over.

The rear sight has a grooved rear face which is all black, and the rear tritium lamps are protected with black inserts around them, so they blend into the black rear face of the sight and you really don't see them until the light gets low enough. Your eye basically just sees a "target sight" with a largish "U" shaped notch into which the large front sight dot fits.

On the down side, they are a little bit pricey at $130.90 ($125.00 with the "gunsmith" member discount) for the set, and I don't think you can buy just the rear sight, as you can with the Battlehook. That thing looks like a great idea if you already like your front sight a lot.

Whatever the customer wants. I recommend a fiber optic sight. What I _always_ recommend, no matter what, is you immediately get rid of those plastic sights on Glocks when you buy one. Those things are horrid!

Yes, between .16 and .17 is typical for 9mm/357SIG/40.
