Aimpoint Comp 2A 4MOA - Help
I talked to TAM earlier about this sight. He has some experience and knows a lot more than I.
I personally like Eotechs, but not enough money for an Eotech. I the opportunity to buy this Aimpoint Com 2A 4MOA that comes with a mount for $275.00.
I will only be using it for poking holes in paper and if I ever get to where I can walk again maybe a shooting house.
I know I am going to have all different opinions here, but I was wondering what is the advice from you who use this sight?

For $100 more you can pick up a aimpoint pro and those come with mount and iirc 2moa dot. I'm now a fan of 1-4x scopes. Millet DMS

Try it. See if you like it. Sell it if you don't. At that price you can't lose really.

That's a great price if it's in great condition.

Re: Aimpoint Comp 2A 4MOA - Help
I have both the aimpoint with the 4 moa and a Millet 1-4. And I like both for different applications.
For up close and personal the Aimpoint is quick and easy to use. The battery lasts forever and I never turn mine off, I just replace the battery every year or so. With the Eotech battery life is a few hours.
The 1-4 Millet is great for old eyes like mine and 200 yard targets.
For that price you can't go wrong. If you don't get it, I would like dibs.

Re: Aimpoint Comp 2A 4MOA - Help

I just picked up an Aimpoint PRO! I installed it on my 300AAC Blackout.
After 6-8 shots to sight it in, I was popping tennis balls at 50 yards and hitting every time! I was able to get the target back on site before it quit bouncing!
I highly recommend AIMPOINT! You wont go wrong.
If you don't like it, I will give you $276 for it!

The 4 moa dot is good from close quarters out 200 yards.

Re: Aimpoint Comp 2A 4MOA - Help
Carl texted me a picture of the actual sight, and it looks like it is in good condition. Carl, I really like the EOTech too, but there are some things to consider:
Weight:
Aimpoint CompM2 - 7.1 oz
EOTech 517/512 - 11.9 oz.
Continuous On Battery Life:
Aimpoint CompM2 - 1,000 hours at full power, 10,000 hours at NVD setting with ONE 3 V lithium 2l76 or dl1/3n battery.
EOTech 517/512 - 1,000 hours with 2 Lithium AA batteries, 600 hours with 2 Alkaline AA batteries.
Reticle:
Aimpoint CompM2 - a simple 4 MOA red dot.
EOTech 517/512 - 65 MOA ring with a single 1 MOA dot.
If weight matters, the Aimpoint wins.
If battery life matters, the Aimpoint wins.
If size of the display matters, I believe that the EOTech display is slightly larger, but only barely, and both are parallax free.....slight edge to the EOTech.
If ruggedness matters, both are very rugged, but I give the margin to the EOTech for two reasons, the metal shield over the top of the display window protects it very well. I've actually dropped my carbine once (I bumped it when it was on the edge of a rifle bench) and it fell from table height onto concrete, landing on the top of the EOTech, under the weight of an 8 lb gun. Other than a scratch, it kept right on trucking, and never lost zero. I have no experience with the Aimpoint, but if it can match that, it is pretty impressive. Also, I've seen an EOTech at a gunshow at a vendor display that has a bullet hole right through the glass, and the sight still functions. Ditto if it is covered with mud or snow or something:

If field of view is important, the EOTech's is superior to the Aimpoint's as it is a true "heads up" display.
If the reticle design matters, both have advantages, but the EOTech's is the more versatile of the two. The simple 4 MOA red dot of the Aimpoint is quick to use, but it is limited in terms of range (distance) and ranging (calculating distance). But in a CQB scenario, it is probably superior. A simple red dot is intuitive. And with a relatively flat shooting caliber like 5.56, it is reasonably usable out to 200 yards, assuming you have the eyes for it (I don't). But that 4 MOA dot covers an 8" circle at 200 yards......a 12" circle at 300 yards, so it isn't particularly precise at longer ranges. On the other hand, the EOTech reticle consists of a 1 MOA red dot inside of a 65 MOA red ring, with vertical and horizontal hash marks which, if they crossed through the ring would intersect at the red dot. At 300 yards, the 1 MOA dot covers a 3" circle. Here's how to do ranging with the EOTech reticle:

OR........if you prefer...........

In my opinion, the EOTech is marginally the better of the two sights, but if you can get that Aimpoint for $275.00, you won't regret it. That's an excellent price for a very good sight.

Re: Aimpoint Comp 2A 4MOA - Help
I'm going to echo a lot of the posters here. I don't know if that is the "right" aimpoint for you...but that is the right price for an Aimpoint!
As far as I know, all of Aimpoint's stuff is rock-solid quality as just plain works. Put the battery in, turn it on, and leave it on for a year. Change the batteries once a year on your birthday, or on Christmas day, and you'll never have to worry about it. I bought a Trijicon SRS because it shares a lot of the same benefits with the Aimpoints. (I think the SRS has better performance in terms of my dominant eye seeing the target clear, sharp, and bright through it....but I also paid for more than $275 for my SRS)
Buy it, try it out. If you like it, you got a solid deal on a solid optic. If you don't like it, sell it for what you paid for it, and the next guy well get a solid deal on a solid optic. I don't see a downside anywhere in this equation.

Re: Aimpoint Comp 2A 4MOA - Help
Thanks for all of the advice. I bought the Aimpoint and mounted it to my AR.
Another question for one of God's slow children. The mount that came with the Aimpoint sets almost flush on the top of the AR. When you lift the iron sights they are to tall to be used through the Aimpoint.
I need some suggestions for different mounts or a maybe another plan of action so my iron sights will co-witness with my red dot.

You can either buy a riser (not quite as solid) or a higher mount (usually more expensive, but probably sturdier).carlson1 wrote:Thanks for all of the advice. I bought the Aimpoint and mounted it to my AR.

If you're on a strict budget, Primary Arms makes some great budget stuff:

(ETA: I have this mount on my M&P 15-22 for one of PA's own red dots, an M2 clone, but so far I can't see why it wouldn't be excellent on a real Aimpoint on a real AR as well. It's solid and well built IMHO).
If you can go more expensive, there's not much better than Larue Tactical

MadMonkey you must have seen my checkbook.

I don't see Larue in my future. It cost more than the AR.If you're on a strict budget, Primary Arms makes some great budget stuff:

Thank To Everyone! (Thanks TAM for the phone counsel) Once again the TexasCHLForum proved to be a great resource. I am constantly learning.
I bought this Aimpoint Comp 2A for $275.00 last night. It did not have the mount in this picture on it and that was the reason for the followup question.

I needed another mount. I called SWFA in Red Oak and talked to a man who suggested I buy this mount in the URL.
http://swfa.com/ARMS-22M68-Aimpoint-Com ... 40136.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I drove out to Red Oak this afternoon and talked to a young man by the name of Dillion. After him explaining I did not have to have that expensive mount to make the optic functional he told me about their site "samplelist.com" (?). They buy used optics and sale used optics.
He bought the Aimport I purchased last night for $250.00 and I bought a new, but opened box Aimpoint PRO for an extra $116.04. It is in the pictures below. All in all with everyone's help all I have to do is get through rehab tomorrow and head to the range to zero it in.

That is the same one I purchased from SWFA last week!
I love mine! Hope you like yours!
It has me thinking about taking the EOTech off of my other rifle and getting another one of these!

Re: Aimpoint Comp 2A 4MOA - Help
Good choice I have 4 Aimpoints and am having a hard time deciding ifmimeant to replace 3 of them with scopes. My bedside AR will always have an Aimpoint
