I think people are underestimating the quality and value of the Ruger. Many think Ruger=rifle/revolver. The SR series (including the 1911) has had great reviews and performance. I don't know much about whether it's has the firing pin block or not. I just know how it's performed everytime i've fired it. It's eaten every ammo fed. That said, i'm not a 1911 guy or gun expert.
Armed not dangerous but potentially lethal.

Me too - if it was black. I don't like stainless guns - just my preference.

At this time I own the 1911 from several different makers. The way they are listed is how I would rate them.
1. Fusion Firearms $2200
2. Ruger $700
3. Kimber custom target II $1400
4. Kimber ultra carry II $1100
5. Colt 70 series
6. Para $1200 and $1000
Just my opinion but for the money I think you can't beat the Ruger. Just because they cost more does not mean they are better all the time. The Fusion is in 357sig but all the rest are .45acp.

I'd rank Ruger ahead of Kimber, Colt, and Para as well. However, I'd rank Springfield Armory ahead of Ruger.
