Can I carry at the OTC in Reliant Park/Stadium ?

#1

Post by duddini »

I plan on attending the OTC on Tuesday. Reliant Park states they have a "no firearms policy", but since this is NOT a sporting event, I think I can carry.

Thanks for any help,

Reliant Center is not posted 30.06. They might have the temporary "gun show" type 30.06 signs. If not temporarily posted, you will be OK.

They didn't have any signs last year.

Just for info. I went ahead and carried this year all through the OTC show, no problems.

Reliant Park is a county-owned property, and it is inappropriate for it to be posted with 30.06 notices.

Reliant STADIUM, which is often a site of SPORTING events of professional- or school-type nature, IS a GUN-FREE ZONE during those sporting events. Football, soccer, rodeo events are SPORTING events. NO SIGNAGE is needed.

Mostly, you're correct.

But all sporting events are not automatic carry exclusions. PC §46.035 is specific about what sporting events are off-limits:
PC §46.035(b)(2) on the premises where a high school, collegiate, or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking place, unless the license holder is a participant in the event and a handgun is used in the event
Just being clear for new readers. It isn't the stadium that's off-limits (it also is city-owned property), it's the nature of whatever event is being held in it at any given time.

That said, Reliant Park (Park and Stadium are under the same ownership and the same policies) security policy states that all items coming into the facility are subject to search, and that no weapons or firearms are allowed: http://reliantpark.com/security-policies.

By Texas statutes, this blanket policy is not legal.
