Just Purchased this Python...

So I just purchased this Colt Python. Serial number has it at early 70's. The barrel was switched out for competitive shooting. I love the look of this thing and running to the range to go shoot it. I paid $800 for the gun plus some ammo. I am planning on putting ivory grips on it, for the look.

Question, was I ripped off?

There is a little rust, but the gun looks great. I just wish the original barrel was on the gun.

Awe man, sucks the original barrel is gone. I want a python and one day I will get it.. I know the price is great but I'm not sure with it not having an original barrel.

Have fun shooting it.

Colt's 'snake' models are selling for high $'s. A 6" Python in pristine condition can sell easily for $1100 up. Your's looks like it has been parkerized and the competition barrel put on it probably for PPC matches. Still a fair deal IMO, but sure is a shame to mess up that beautiful Colt blue with parkerizing. :totap: Should be a good shooter though. :thumbs2:

I have a Colt Nickel Diamondback .38 that are selling on Gunbroker for the $3K+ range!!!! And when it was bought, it cost $350 used. :hurry: :anamatedbanana

It doesn't seem like a bad deal IMO. Pythons are usually people's dream revolver. If you are happy with it and it shoots great, that's all that matters. It's interesting for sure. Plus now you're in the "Python Club".

Python's are great guns but since they are also collector pieces they are way over priced Imo no matter what. Personally for the money i would get the 6inch gp100 .Enjoy it and don't worry about it.

It shot great. I hated that he barrel was changed, then I shot I and was six for six on the plates from ten yards.

What a great gun. Now I need to shoot more .357.

With a pure Ivory white grip I would be an awesome gun

I'm sure you will enjoy your Python Kodiac. In one way it's nice being likely one of a kind. I don't know that I would change anything on it - being so unique. Kind of modern looking. Not being negative, but, honestly, it kind of makes my head hurt everytime I look at that square barrel.....

Enjoy it! Good shooting!

It was so great to shoot that I feel in love. So accurate. That square barrel is a pisser to look at, but I'll get over it.

I love my Python. Dad left me his before he passed away. I still have the box and paperwork. Will never sell it. Will leave it to my grandson.

Over the years (particularly in the late 70-80s) I've owned almost every model of Smith and Colt revolver. The only ones I never sold were a couple of Model 34 Smith .22 Kit Guns (one in blue and one in nickel), 2 Model 36 & 60 .38 snubs, a Colt Cobra .38 snub, and a Colt Python 4" nickel. Without question those older Pythons had the smoothest trigger pull of any "right out of the box" revolver I ever handled. I hardly ever shoot mine nowdays, but will never sell it...just wish I'd also got one in Colt's Royal Blue finish!

No, you weren't ripped off.

Look carefully at the revolver, especially the barrel. Are there any marks that tell you who did the custom work?

If a revolver can be traced to certain 'smiths, it's worth a premium, possibly FAR more than you paid for it.
