If you can, take some extra gas, and plenty of water to drink.

I bugged out wed morning. Took about 7 hours to get to Dallas then. One of my buddies tried to bug out this morning at 4:30am and hasn't yet made it out of town. Said lots of people were running out of gas (on the road)

I know what you mean about the arsenal. I had my AR, 3 handguns, and around 400rds of ammo with me in the front... with more in the trunk.

After much waffling (I'm the John Kerry of Hurricane Rita) we decided to head to our church on the north side of town (we live in Katy) and after about an hour of getting not more than a few miles down the road, we decided to come back home and hunker down.

I was amazed to see all of the cars overheating and running out of gas. I didn't want to get into the same situation as them, although I would feel much better at the church.

So, Katy it will be. I heard one guy say that his gas got siphened from his car overnight. I've got to figure out how to prevent that since I don't have locks on my gas caps.

Locking gas caps are a waste of money. I've taken them off with a screwdriver and hammer. I used to work at a car dealer and people would trade in cars all the time with locking caps and not leave the key. Bang Snap, it's off.

My wife and daughter and myself left Friendswood at noon Wednesday. Took the beltway over to 59 and that took 4 hours and I started having trouble with my brakes.

Anyway, ended up stopping at a friends home in Kingwood and we are going to ride the storm out here, as it seems to be shifting more to the east. He is a Ham Radio Operator also. He has a 90 foot tower in his back yard, so we are sweating that a little.

Sure hope everybody has their homes nice and safe to come back to.

You guys be careful, ya'll here?

Left with two full tanks in a Ford 4wd Powerst troke drained both of them by the time our rather roundabout route brought us to Bastrop thank God for diesels the only fuel available at the station we stopped at was diesel. Only filled one tank since I was so close to our destination but must have used about 40 galons to that point.

I just bought a 4x4 PSD a little over a week ago. I love it, and it was so nice being able to fuel up anywhere during the crazy run on gas.

went to dallas

#14

Post by John »

wife, kid, and i (and dogs) took off for dallas about 4:00am on thursday and make there in 14 hours. we left dallas, saturday about 1:00pm and made it back to sugar land at 8:00pm.

Learned a lot about mass evacuations. we layed out a plan and followed to a tee. No problems on the road, not problems finding gasoline. I might write someting up on what we did, but i will say, that remembering those people stuck on I-10 and the super dome in new orleans caused me to ignore what the officials where telling us to do. we did our own thing and made out pretty good.
