Freedom Munitions in Houston still has a pretty good selection. I just ordered some 308 this evening.
They are getting low on many calibers today. They had 9mm in all box sizes couple days ago, now they just have 500/1000 boxes...glad I have some on the way.

He is going to school in the People's Republic of Massachusetts and goes through withdrawal. I was really surprised that was no expensive self-defense ammo. Hoping that things get better in the next couple weeks, but I doubt it.

Cabela's in Fort Worth still has a couple thousand boxes for 9mm as of tonight at 6PM. I don't know on the 22lr though.

Anybody thinking of taking their CHL course any time soon should be thinking about getting 50 of whatever caliber bullets they plan on qualifying with, wouldn't you say?

Absolutely, and don't forget to get a box of JHP's for everyday carry.

My standard practice is to keep at least a couple of boxes in reserve so I don't shoot myself dry. And I restock in small amounts periodically (usually every 2 weeks around payday). So when something like this hits I'm not in panic mode.

I went to Cabela's Ft Worth on the day of the Newtown incident...I was planning to go anyway but I bought MUCH more than I had planned (~$1,500 in various calibers) but I think I should have bought MORE (also picked up 2 PMAGs, should have bought MORE of those)...part of the reason for stocking up was to do *more* plinking/shooting (went to the range thrice since my visit to Cabelas, once for CHL renewal, once for sighting in the EOTECH on my EBR and the other to plink/test my newly acquired .357 Magnum, worked flawlessly BTW)...but I have to tell y'all...after those trips, I am thinking about NOT shooting/plinking unless I just really "have" too (you know, too keep "fresh"). Might be a better idea to just hold onto the ammo. I guess I need to follow the strategy of some on here, stop by Academy/WalMart every few days and pick up a few boxes and use one or two boxes just for plinking purposes...I dunno. :tiphat:

I can accomplish what I need to with a 50 round practice. Anything over that is purely for the fun of it. Purpose practicing might be the order of the day for a few weeks. I've been neglecting my sporting clays, so now might be the time to work on that to get my bangs in.

Ugh ... I just begrudingly ordered 1,000 rounds of 115-grain 9mm from Freedom Munitions ... I'm sure their ammo is fine (would've prefered 124-grain, but not a huge deal) and I'm glad they had (or will soon have) it ready to ship so I can have it before end of month (I hope) ... the begrudingly part is that I paid $272 (including tax and shipping) ... last month I paid $190 for 1,000 rds of 124-grain 9mm from Parabellum Research in Buda

But at least now I feel somewhat comfortable I can weather the storm and still do a bit of IDPA shooting and loaners to my CHL students and not run dry.

I was in that same Cabela's Tuesday morning (1/1) and they had no 9MM on the shelves – absolutely nothing. While we were looking, one of their employees came up with a cart that had three cases of Winchester 100 round value packs (10 boxes each). I bought 5 ($30 ea.) and there were only about 5 or so remaining when we left a few minutes later. I'm glad to hear they had such a large quantity the next day; at least they are still getting stock in.

I was also surprised to see that they were completely out of small pistol primers and 9mm bullets - I guess reloaders are stocking up as well.

Yes, the wife called on 1/1 and the guy said a truck was unloading for the next day shopping. They are out of about all primers, except for a couple rifle and magnums. They also had a couple bags of 100 Winchester FMJ bullets in the bins but that was about it. The reloading guys said that they have placed a large order and should be in within the next couple of days. He didn't expect this rush to last much in to January based on previous panic buys.

I should mention that when I bought ammo at Cabela's Ft. Worth I had one of the employees "bulk up" some ammo for me. Essentially I asked him what the best deals were for various calibers (and types, ie - FMJ, hollow-point, etc.) and the various price breaks. He gladly bulked them up and put them into the Cabela's plastic ammo boxes (with a zip-tie and a sticker showing the price). For the majority of ammo that I bought, it was a better deal to have it bulked up than just buying it right off of the shelf (the exception was the .45 ACP ball, cheapest was MAGTECH from what I recall). I don't recall the total "savings" if you will, but it was significant considering the amount *and* you get extra ammo boxes (see pic below). Hope this helps! :tiphat:

I think I exceeded the load capacity of the wife's vette....oooops...LOL...it was a short trip though.

After not being able to find any 9mm anywhere in Round Rock, I made the trip to GT Distributors in Austin and picked up a couple of boxes to add to my stock. Since they primarily sell to law enforcement, I am assuming that they either order large lots or get priority shipping. The cashier even rang up my two 50 count boxes at the bulk ammo prices.

Stopped by Academy in Grapevine after lunch, 1:30 pm or so today.

Ammo report:
-just a few (~20 or so) boxes of 9mm in Monarch (steel case)
-handful of Winchester White Box .45 ACP (bought one), fair amount of hollow-point from what I recall
-NO .223 or 5.56 (staff said that the shipment for today did not have any, yesterday's shipment did and it was gone in 10 seconds).
-now is a good time to shoot 10mm as there is plenty of that, 12 gage, 300 win mag, etc. Saw a little bit of .38 special too, not a lot though.

As an aside, for those with an itch to scratch, no AR/EBR in stock/under counter. They are getting somewhat regular shipments according to gun counter staff, got 3 in last week and they sold QUICK. :tiphat:
