I could see how these sites went from 25 sales to processing 100s within it 24 hours.. They could have shipping issues, database issues, ordering issues, etc.. The last thing they want to do is take orders and then not be able to handle them..
:iagree:
Ammoman.com shut down in order to catchup on orders.

Hmmm,

I haven't been paying close attention, but CTD just jumped the price of Speer Lawman 9mm across the board... yesterday the only one the had in stock was $12.19, now it is $17.19 (and everything out of stock went up by $3-$4).

I have a friend in Wisconsin who's ordering an AR from Primary Arms. His order was supposed to ship today and hadn't yet so he called them afraid that they'd caved like CTD or Dick's. While on the phone he was told by the rep that they would be shipping his AR and additionally that (ok, prepare yourself for wild rumor here) they had received a formal notice from the government (no agency mentioned) that they should stop all gun sales for 30 days or face possible legal action, but that they were shipping orders regardless. Ok, that sounds absolutely insane to me and like a wild rumor that HAS to be false. Has anyone here that is "in the business" heard of any such communication? Primary Arms is a Texas company, right? Does anyone here have any contacts there?
I personally shipped out almost 15 rifles last night to customers all over the country. If he paid for his rifle and we got his FFL info, it went out either last night or today. I'm not sure who he spoke with, but there is no chance that anyone told him that wild rumor. This is the first time I've ever heard of such a thing. All lowers, mags and ammo is SOLD OUT at this point with no ETA on shipments from dealers/distributors. We did not take advantage of the current circumstances with regards to pricing and as far as I know we will continue to sell "semi-automatic modern sporting rifles" as long as we can get them. Thanks to your friend for us.

I like it when I learn something new! I just added a bookmark for Primary Arms for future reference.

Edit 23 December - I just ordered a front sight :) Nicely set up web site and I appreciate having the option of choosing UPS or the USPS. I prefer using USPS when I can. Prices were good too.

I suppose it never occurred to any of you that CTD was already OUT OF STOCK on all popular firearms at the time of the announcement. No ARs. No lowers. Most popular handguns out of stock.

Like every other dealer, they had been slammed by orders since the election results in November.

I assume you work for CTD?

And honestly, don't you think that CTD would say something to that effect it that was the case, avoiding all the bad PR?

Either way, I'm sure the store will survive in some capacity...they just won't see another dime from me or thousands of other shooting enthusiasts.

I was giving CTD online the benefit of the doubt the temporary suspension until the price gouging started. When I saw PMAGs jump to $60 and 1000 rounds of ammo go up by 100+% in less than a few hours then I decided CTD did not want my business. To gouge their customers that way is inexcusable. Many others feel the same way. I understand they did this a few years ago too.

Yep...they did it in 2008 too. Hey, it's Capitalism, but it goes both ways. You want to take advantage of consumers, we will make it known.

I don't know if this has been true since CTD started their policy review but I just looked up a firearm and it says:

CheaperThanDirt.com does not sell firearms.

I was speaking with a CTD corporate employee the other day. She indicated that they'd shut down firearm sales after they'd sold more than a week's worth of firearms in less than 1/2 day. According to her, management was worried about the ramifications if their processes were found to be inappropriate (whatever that means). I'm guessing they're worried about the .gov reviewing their sales practices. You'd think that they would have thought about that when they first started selling firearms, not after the fact. Not only that, but as an online retailer, you can pretty much sell to anyone, the onus is on the transferring FFL to ensure the transfer follows proper procedures.

In any case take from that what you will. The lady I spoke with seemed genuine, and indicated that she'd been told they're resume once their sales procedures were reviewed.

Kind of. The onus is also on the shipper to verify that the receiving FFL is valid. If you miss this check, you could wind up shipping a firearm to somebody that has forged a license (this definitely happens, and more unscrupulous types might try to take advantage of the rush). This doesn't excuse their behavior though. I know a LOT of dealers that got overloaded. None of them said they were going to stop selling firearms permanently.

CTD gave in to pressure from the very people that are NOT their customers. To heck with them.

True. And that would probably go a long way in explaining to their customers if that's what they're doing. To make the blanket statement that they're "reviewing policies and procedures" leads to a lot of speculation. But then again, I've never bought from CTD so I really shouldn't care in the first place.

Interesting that CTD has been selling guns again since Monday, but this thread hasn't been alive in weeks. I guess when a company abandons their customers, they quickly become irrelevant.

BTW - they have very little in stock. Wasn't one Glock for sale when I looked earlier today.
