I saw this done in a "Guns 'n Ammo" TV show in their torture test segment.

It would work for one or two shots, but then the barrel would bulge enough to impede the slide cycling.

It will shoot, but it could damage the gun.

The bulge (IIRC, multiple guns tested) was barely discernible to the naked eye, but it was enough to affect the slide cycling. It was not the kind of barrel bulge that would be a kaboom, it would simply disable the gun.

I think a revolver would continue to function without difficulty, although given the pressures involved and resultant flow resistance, I'd expect the gases escaping through the barrel-cylinder gap would be enormously exaggerated.

I also recall a MythBusters episode regarding the "myth" about people being able to avoid bullets by swimming under water. They were surprised at how true that was, and the higher the velocity, the greater the effect of the water on the bullet. The real shocker was the .50 BMG. If I recall correctly, the bullet disintegrated within about six feet.

FWIW, I saw an episode of "Sea Hunt" back in the 60's where somebody tried to shoot Lloyd Bridges with a snub nose 38 underwater. It might have been TV magic, but it was cool watching the bullet drop after about 6 feet.

iirc there is a video of a glock with water cups installed being shot under water on youtube. I think the key was making sure the barrel was completly full of water.
could be wrong though
