A handgun in any caliber is a puny substitute for a high power rifle or a gauge with slugs or buckshot. No handgun is going to do the job of a long gun. Why do you think armies issue rifles? To look cool? No, because they simply work so much better. "No knowledgeable man or woman will ever willingly go into a gunfight armed solely with a handgun." Evan Marshall

My buddy a retired LEO who owns in excess of 100 1911s, of al brands and sizes, bought, and last week informed me that his new EDC carry weapon is now ...
Kel Tec 22 Magnum PMR 30
I WAS going to argue with him, but ... he didn't used to carry at all 99% of the time, the other 1% of the time, the times he did carry ... he was on the way to the range.
At least it's a .22 MAG
So, if he'll carry, I'll leave him alone.

I carry a Glock 26 (extended barrel like a Glock 19's ported and don't tell me not to carry ported) with 19 rounds ready to go and a 20 round spare
I can put 19 rounds of Gold Dots and Critical Defense (low flash, low recoil) in a 3 inch by 4 inch box at 21 feet very very fast out of that Glock 26.
However if the 19 rounds empties, and the guy/guys aren't deterred by that time, I hope to no longer be there anyway; the spare 20 is for the rest of the trip home.

Everyone who sees me shoot the 26 and sees the target, says "carry that" and I do .. after I saw Hickok's accuracy and tested mine, I have confidence in that I can place where they need to be, and follow up immediately that's what counts

My ported .XD45 shoots as reliably, but the sights are off, and a shot 4 inches off where you aim won't have the stopping power as one on target in any caliber.

Kel Tec 22 Magnum PMR 30
I like it except it seems too big for a CCW. I don't know much about Keltec, but reliability would be a major concern also.

He's a big big guy; I haven't seen him since he got it last week, he went out of town, I hope he's carrying something anyway instead of a .22 car gun, but that's better than nothing.

I read a book "One Ranger", Joaquin Jackson and he stated that one of his preferences for a BUG was the .22WMR. With 20 rounds, I would be satisfied as my primary carry. The main reason I say that is shot placement. My groups with a .22LR pistol are much much better than with a centerfire.

Then I have no idea what point you were trying to make.

They didn't die from their wounds, so its not a good ".22s are effective" point.

And they weren't actively attacking Hinckley, so its not as if their getting shot is a good example of an attack being stopped by a .22.

What were you trying to say? :headscratch

I can tell you why I don't trust a 9mm. All the talk about shot placement and all the improved ammo we have now and it's all true. Even a .45 is less than ideal coming out of a 3" barrel. A 9mm from a short barrel and you're right back to a pea shooter again. But , like my grandma used to say. "It's better than an empty hand".You little smart mouth punk!

So why doesn't everyone just carry a 10mm and go on with it? [Rhetorical question].

For the same reason we don't all carry a .44mag to big, to hard to shoot well, and no one has built one worth a poo since Smith stopped building the 1006.(Rhetorical answer)

And I dont want to hear nothin about the glocks :grumble

Mr. Cotton told us in CHL class, If the guy you shot testifies against you in court, you need more range time. And I might add, maybe a bigger gun.
