You won't be able to tell the difference until you rack the slide on the NHC guns. Oh so nice! But I still prefer my Springfield over the NHC. Hehe.

it's like good wine, unless you drink enough of it, you can't tell the difference. I prolly couldn't tell ya much about it, but I have a friend who could tell ya what color nailpolish the girl who squished the grapes was wearing!

I've seen plenty of Kimbers (only the cool kids have one of those), heard great things about the Smiths, shewt, I've even heard some good things aobut the Taurus PT1911's, too. I've been thinking of gettin' mah paws on one a' dem.

Well for one is Springfield's customer service. They'll set you right no matter what. Other than the ILS, their 1911 doesn't have any firing pin block which I like.
I have a couple of their custom shop pistols and I find their fit and finish on par if not better with NHC guns.

Well, I've had Springfields in the past and they treated me well.Plus its going for a good price and seems to have the features I'm looking for.

You can keep a Kimber.I dont want one.Just like the NH, I'd need to knock someone off to pay for it.Plus,most of the Kimbers I've messed with just didnt fit my hand properly..it didnt feel natural or comfy to me.Maybe I'm just too picky.*shrug*

I've looked at Tarus and from what I saw on the website they dont carry a sub5" barrel,which is what I want.The S&W are nice but,other than being a tad out of my price range, they're made with an alloy and I'm looking for a steel weapon.I know thats just more weight to carry and try to conceal but thats just what I like.I know that makes me a bit persnickety,but thats just my prefrence.If I ever get the chance to play with a predominately alloy weapon then maybe I'll change my mind.But I know that my 9X19 Makarov is aluminium and it has a pretty good kick to it and thats what I want to avoid.

But again, I'm new to the CHL world and I'm still learning.

Hmmmm. If I remember correctly, it was around $2200 out the door. The quality of the GRP is similar to the SA Pro, but I prefer the Black-T finish over the perma-kote. It is also very different when you rack the slide on each gun. Both are nice, but I still prefer SA over NHC. lol.

Back on topic. Hehe. Another one you may want to look at is the SigArms 1911. It comes in commander size with no MIM part from what I've heard. Some models are less than $700. Only thing I don't like is the 80's series firing pin block. Other than that, it is very nice.

Kinda confused about the Kimber not fitting you hand and the springer does as they are EXACTLY the same grip width and angle Maybe the Kimber had different grips installed?

You could look into the Detonics at http://www.detonicsusa.com/. They were the first to come up with a factory chopped down 1911.

the kimber ultra raptor II is a great officer size gun , i held it up to a buddies springer and the grips are identical
