Good gunsmith for 1911 bobtail job?

#1

Post by bseidenberger »

I live in Amarillo and am looking to get my 1911 bobtailed. I cant find a reputable gunsmith here that will bobtail my Colt. Any smiths in the state of Texas that anyone might recommend? Of course, I'd prefer someone that isn't swamped but good quality work trumps a fast job.

Karl Sokol of http://www.chestnutmountainsports.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is one of the best in the business though he is located in Vermont. I have had more than a few projects done by Karl. He has a reputation of being one of the best 1911 guys out there.

Rogers Precision.

In Houston, I talked to Eddie Jiminea about doing one. He seemed the most knowledgeable about the process, but Rogers Precision stuff is gorgeous.

I used Alan Tillman, who joined up with Hank Fleming Gunsmith.

I was extremely pleased with Alan's work.
