Well seeing as how a silencer is classified as a prohibitive weapon in Texas, I'd recommend having it. They may beat the charge, but not the ride. Not trying to argue symantics here, just don't want to see some of you all get arrested. Most cops are pro guns, but there are some that aren't and less knowledgable.

That is may be true if you are being charged with an NFA violation at the federal level. However, Texas Peace Officer can give you the choice between getting arrested under Texas law, or showing him your tax stamp as your defense against Texas charges. The two situations are not mutually exclusive.

I think you got your answer (carry a copy of your paperwork with the suppressor - pretty simple). I didn't catch the "tin foil hat arguments," just some pedantic outlier discussions (that you might care about if you don't carry your paperwork and/or have a difficult LEO encounter).

I have never ever ever been asked anything about my NFA stuff by a cop except at the range asking if they can shoot it. I carry copies of my stamps with the the items. Like if you have a SBR AR fold up the paper and stick it in the bottom of a vert foregrip or in the bag for your can. That way it is always with you. I know guys that keep business card shrunk down ones in their wallet. I don't want to get my wallet stolen and have that info out there myself.

You do not have to show your stamp to anyone but a ATF agent or an IRS agent. If a cop asked me about it I would show it to him just to avoid headache and to not give him a hard time. Don't forget if you take it over state lines to fill out your 5320.20 ahead of time. congrats on the new can!!!
