Opinions on Nigh Sight brands / models

#1

Post by Superman »

I just bought a Springfield XD 9mm sub-compact for my EDC (and in the market for XDM 9mm 4.5"). I like the stock sights for the daytime, but they are horrible at night. I've seen the nice night sights on the Springfield 1911's Loaded and they look nice (I've heard they are Trijon?...again only seen them during the day, haven't seen them in the dark). So I'm looking to pickup some night sights and was wondering what everyone's opinions were on the "top" brands. I've done some research but you can only get marketing from their own websites :totap:

So, what have you used that you like and why did you like it? Doesn't have to be your one favorite if you like multiple makes / models...I'm just trying to get info to make an informed purchase. Thanks in advance for the info / opinions! :patriot:

Meprolight all the way!! I have them on 2 Glocks and my Kimber. Extremely bright at night and still great for daytime shooting as well. You will probably get a load of other opinions. Trijicon usually ranks high on everyones list. Good luck!

I recently bought some from here: http://www.xssights.com/. I got the ones called "Big Dot 24/7 Express".

These are made for quick target acquisition (not for accurate target shooting). You just have to "dot the i" and you're ready to fire. I decided on these for my Hi-Power that sleeps on the nightstand next to my bed. I like 'em.
(ETA: That HP is also my daily carry gun).

XS, Trijicon, and Meprolight. I have experience with all three and nothing bad to say about any of them. Find the ones you like/that suits your needs, and get 'em on there!
XS uses Trijicon tritium tubes, BTW.
Defensive weapons that you might have to use at night, duh, should have sights you can see in the dark.
I have Meprolight sights that came on my Kimber pistol.
Recently installed XS Big Dot front sight on my new Remington shotgun.
I have more guns that need 'em. They're on the wishlist.

I had Meprolight sights on my .40's. The green dots were big.

I now have .45's and have only put night sights on the G21SF. I went with Trijicon's HD with the orange front sight. It is nice, but the green dots are smaller. I am still contemplating what to put on the G30SF. I might go back to the Meprolights or try the XS sights. I like the orange around the front green and I haven't seen that configuration with the Meprolights. It's goo d for picking up that front sight during the daytime.

I like the TruGlo TFO sights (Tritium Fiber Optic) They are bright and easy to see day or night.

Get a laser/light if you can afford one. I have TLR-2 and TLR-4 on 2 pistols. Fine items.

Which setup do you have? I'm curious about the green rear with red front. Is the red front sight visible in low or no light? I think this is the fiber optic one and is not visible in no or low light very well.

I have two sets of Trijicon night sights on both of my M&Ps and they are bright. One set is 1 year old and the other is 7 month's old.

I'm a big believer in contrast between front sight dot and rear sight dots. I want that front sight to scream out "HERE I AM!"

I like TruGlo TFO with bright green front and duller yellow rear - love the contrast - use these on my S&W M&Ps

Another set I love (though don't yet own) are the Dawson Precision Charger sights - large tritium front sight but back sight instead of contrasting colors has much smaller tritium tubes of same color. I've used these on buddy's XD and they will be next sights I purchase

FRONT - http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductD ... 1278688058" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

REAR - http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Category ... ear+Sights" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Edited to add: if this is your first time picking from a selection of different sight heights, pay particular attention to Dawson's instructions here http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Category ... GHTS+FRONT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I bought a slide that had 2005 dated Trijicons on it. They still show up a LOT better than nothing, but I am planning on relamping the front sight so that it stands out better. That is after I receive another slide that has 95 dated Trijicons...

I like the Truglo best. I've used Trijicon, Meprolight, MMC, Siglites and Truglo. The brightness of the Truglo is better than the others.

For those that use Truglo sights, do they glow in the dark or do they need some light? I think I might like to get one of the Truglo sight, but they need to glow like tritium sights in complete darkness.
