Have any of you used the LaserLyte Laser Trainer Target? It is a target that registers hits from a laser that you place in your existing gun. I saw a write up about it in an NRA magazine and it looks pretty cool, but I am wondering if it is worth it? I definitely need more practice but it is expensive going to the range.

I have the 9mm cartridge and the barrel insert model. both work great. I don't have the target, I just see where it lands and if it moves watching for trigger pull etc. Works good.

Be careful to not fall into the habit of target focus instead of sight focus.gwashorn wrote:I have the 9mm cartridge and the barrel insert model. both work great. I don't have the target, I just see where it lands and if it moves watching for trigger pull etc. Works good.

Re: LaserLyte Laser Trainer Target
That is pretty neat. I like the idea of being able to use a real weapon and not a fake feeling/shooting one for practice inside even. I watched the video and agree that is is a little too simple for the money they are asking for it.

On the other hand, it occurs to me that if this exercise is done correctly, this might discourage the target focus inherent in just aiming with the laser affixed to your handgun, then pulling the trigger without even looking at the front sight. With this gadget, if I understand it correctly, you are aiming with your iron sights, and if you ignore the first flash when you pull the trigger, and wait until bringing up all the spots later, you need not focus on the target until that time.
I do not have one, so I may be missing something (not unusual), but I am tempted to get one. If it works as it appears to, while somewhat expensive, it could end up being a heck of a lot cheaper (in my case) than .45 ACP rounds and associated range costs.

Re: LaserLyte Laser Trainer Target
I think the model that uses that laser cartridge in place of a live round would aid in drawing from a holster and firing the first shot, also help with trigger control, and good sight alignment. It would seem that any single action/striker fired guns would be obnoxious to train with having to re-cock them each time.
