Re: I want to improve the trigger on my M&P's
I feel that the trigger feel after installing the Apex DCAEK compared to the factory trigger is night and day. If you have an M&P Pro, the difference is not as concrete but still worth the money, IMHO. I have saved the sear, sear spring and trigger spring from the M&P pro to use on another M&P if I do get one in the future, e.g. an M&P9c. Using the youtube videos that austinrealtor linked definitely makes things easier. And if you have any questions, I've heard Randy at Apex is very helpful and accessible.

Re: I want to improve the trigger on my M&P's
You can google Dan Burwell and go to his web site for pricing. The big stumbling block for me was the overnight Fed Ex fees. Ended up sending 4 guns at once to get the price per gun down. You may be able to find others that want a trigger job as well so that you can do the same. You had to schedule with him before shipping but he turns them around very quickly. Ours were back in a week. I am a member of PSC and would be glad to let you dryfire or shoot mine to see what his work is like. PM me if interested.

Re: I want to improve the trigger on my M&P's
Update: I received the Apex kit last week and was waiting on the night sights from nightvisionsales.com, status still showed pending on Tuesday. I called, the sights are on back order, so I canceled the order. I checked Midway and the price dropped from the previous week, so I ordered (they were in stock) and I received on Thursday. This was my first orders from Midway and was very pleased.
So I am afraid to screw up my EDC, so I'm going to a gun smith at lunch to get a quote for the installs. From here and the S&W M&P board it seems the consensus is to leave the factory springs and install everything else for the lighter pull. The slack on initial takeup kind of worries me, something to get used to I guess if it does happen to change dramatically.
This is going in the 4.25" 9mm full size, if all goes well, then the 9c may get the treatment too.
Thanks for the input

Just don't email him for information and expect to get a reply. Or at least that has been my experience. I was trying to find out some further information on his "melting" process and prices, etc and have never heard back. I understand being busy, but to stay busy, sometimes you have to actually answer emails.LTUME1978 wrote:You can google Dan Burwell and go to his web site for pricing.

Re: I want to improve the trigger on my M&P's
I visited the nearby gun shot and gun smith, he will not do the trigger work for me and doesn't have the right tool for the sight on the M&P. His rational is
- if it aint broke don't fix it and it was made that way for a reason - in a nutshell.
There is truth in there, it has me questioning now if I should do the Apex kit on my EDC. I want it to go bang if I need it too.
So now where do I go with this?
Anyone in the DFW area that has done this kit on the M&P 9c or non-pro full-size and willing to let me try it?

Re: I want to improve the trigger on my M&P's
I understand that you don't want to mess up your gun, but honestly, it's not very difficult. The first time you do it, it may take longer due to being more careful. I've installed five kits in total now, and the time of install went from 30 minutes to 15 minutes, to under 10 minutes for the last three. Given, I only installed the new sear, sear spring, and trigger spring on those kits. I do not have a sight pusher or a vice to install the USB.
If you have a stock M&P9, the factory trigger should be about 8.5 lbs. Installing only the sear will take it down to a mere 4.25 - 4.5 lbs. In my opinion, it's a little too light. Feels like you can breathe on it wrong and the trigger will break. Installing the trigger spring will then take the trigger pull back up to around 5.5 - 6 lbs, which is much better, IMHO. The slop is taken out of the trigger, the reset is much more distinct, and as Randy discusses on the video, front sight disturbance/trigger creep is almost eliminated. I've yet to experience an M&P with the USB installed, but I have read that the reset is even more distinct and the trigger is even smoother with it installed.

Re: I want to improve the trigger on my M&P's
Well I finally was able to get to the range yesterday after getting the Apex kit and night sights installed by a gun smith. My first impression when picking it up and dry firing, was WOW. The travel to the break point was a bit long, as described by others, but it was smooth and clean. After the break, the reset was even more surprising as it as seemed nearly immediate.
At the range everything functioned perfectly! The pull felt in the 5 lb range compared to the 6.5 lb stock, it was smooth and reset fast. With the stock trigger setup I would occasionally pull the trigger and "feel" as if it was at the break point, but no bang. I think that gritty feeling was confusing my senses, that was gone (and I hope it never comes back) as every trigger pull on 200+ rounds when bang!
The night sights, Trijicon, are great too, in the light they are easy to see and get focused and in the dark glow green and bright.

If I supplied the ammo, would you be willing to let me try out the trigger on your M&P? I've been considering getting the apex kit for my 9c but I have been a bit hesitant having never had any trigger work done on my guns.geekwagun wrote:Well I finally was able to get to the range yesterday after getting the Apex kit and night sights installed by a gun smith. Re: I want to improve the trigger on my M&P's
I would love to get the APEX trigger on my M&P 40c but I too am afraid that I would mess it up. I tried to go to Dury's gun shop in San Antonio and I was told they do not do trigger jobs on the M&P.
My question is where can I go to get this trigger job done by someone who KNOWS what they are doing? I live in San Antonio but work in Austin...
Help?...

I have heard that Heritage Firearms in Austin can install the APEX kit. I'll be in Austin next week for work if you want me to bang on it and install it.longhorn_92 wrote:I would love to get the APEX trigger on my M&P 40c but I too am afraid that I would mess it up.
