The above link is to this week's Academy ad. Prices are in effect from December 4 - 10, 2011.

There are many handguns on sale in this week's ad, but I felt that this one by itself on page 1 was the
best deal: Taurus 809, 4" barrel, 9MM, 17 + 1 rounds, DA/SA, was $399.99, on sale for only $299.99.

This pistol has a hammer rather than a striker, and was derived from the Taurus OSS line, with features
desired by the US military. It has 2nd strike capability in case you get a round with a hard primer.

For less than the price of an LCP, which packs only 6 + 1 of .380, you could get a high capacity 9MM.

The above link is to the Taurus website, and contains ALL the details about this pistol.

This pistol would be an inexpensive entry pistol for a new CHL, or an inexpensive BUG for anyone.

Please post on this thread if you have shot this gun, own it, or buy one this week.

The ad doesn't specify "limit 1" so you may be able to buy multiples.

Happy shopping, shootists.

The above link is to the page which contains the majority of this week's Academy handguns on sale.

The single stack Citadel 1911 gives you 6 + 1 in the manly round (.45) for $499.99.

By the way, the Academy website prompts users for their zip codes before generating the pages.
I searched on my zipcode (Lewisville, TX; 75067). Academy may have these sale handguns Texas-wide,
but YMMV.

The Citadel is made by Armscor and imported by Legacy Sports. Same pistol as a Rock Island Armory.

Went to academy today to purchase the Taurus 809. After reading all the horror stories about gun purchases at Academy I wasn't sure what to expect! My experience at Academy was no different than anywhere else I have purchased a gun, very painless and quick! I picked out gun, handled it, decided to buy! Was asked for drivers license, I handed over CHL and DL, clerk gave me back my Drivers license, filled out paperwork, no call to NICS. Clerk went and retrieved gun from safe, opened case, wiped down gun, handed it to me for my inspection, I approved, serial number recorded on paperwork. Manager called to verify everything, CHL handed back to me. Clerk then walked me and gun to cashier where I paid for purchase. Clerk handed me the gun and I walked out of the store!

Honestly a very smooth transaction and I would do it again in a heartbeat! I don't see what all the fuss has been about!

It seems to me that the general "take" on RIA's, hence Citadel's, is that they are value-priced pistols that shoot fine,
but they are not as pricey as more upscale 1911's. Does this sound about right?

For the gentleman above who purchased the Taurus, please post here a short range report when you shoot it.

You mentioned that Academy wiped down your gun. Since most new Taurus pistols have generous amounts of lube,
did he use a bath towel? :-)
